Door handles and shocks
I am updating this post because I do not want to create a new on as I have other issues with my car.
My 1992 door handles can open the door fine, but the top part is deteriorating where the rubber cover wraps around the window.
I went to the Acura dealer and they said the handle was replaced with a new part as evidenced by the new part number.
The old right handle is 72282-SL0-003
The new right handle is 72282-SL0-013ZB
I think that the new number indicates the handles for the 1993+ models and according to the dealer it should be compatible with the pre 1993 NSX doors.
One problem with replacing the door handle is that I do not want to replace it with another door handle that will deteriorate the same way as the ones I have now. Another problem is that each door handle from the dealer cost $940 each.
I think one my options are to find a used one for less. I would like to know if this deterioration occurs frequently to other cars and what I can do the prevent it. Does the 1993+ door handle address this issue?
My other option is to buy an aftermarket door handle made by third party. However, I do not know anything about third party exterior door handles for the NSX. I am also thinking of installing a vertical door (Diablo-style) hinge to make it easier for me to enter and exit the car without doing some yoga (I am pretty tall for the car -- 5'11"). Maybe I can install different type of door handle then. But I am not familiar with what options are out there..
The other issue with my car is that the shocks are 18 years old and my ride is getting a little bumpy so I will need to replace them soon. I have a problem with my lip getting scratched so many times since my car is so low. I bought a traditional bra to cover the lip and now it is tearing up. I wonder if there are shocks that can raise the car a little so I can go through the ramps with out damage. I know that it is strange for someone wanting to elevate their car instead of lowering it, but would rather preserve the car instead of risk damaging it more. I am not going to race the car either. I wonder if there are shocks that can stay higher when the car is slow and drop when the car goes faster.
My earlier problem below is still not completely resolved regarding the wheel wrench. I will keep it there for reference.
Earlier problem:
When I bought my 1992 NSX I did not inspect the trunk until now so I have some questions for anyone who is willing to help.
First my inside trunk light did not work. I checked the light and found no light bulb. I borrowed the light bulb from my inside door light (which works) and placed it in the trunk light and it did not turn on. The manual states that not all the interior lights are the same. Is the interior trunk light supposed to be the same as the interior door light? if not, what type of light bulb goes in the trunk? Here is a diagram on the manual:
I am also wondering what this part is for as it is loose in my tire replacement kit. If it is not in other people's trunks then it may be a useless part.
I also also missing my wheel wrench used to loosen the nuts on my wheel when I need to replace a tire. How or where can I find a replacement wheel wrench that could fit inside the kit without paying an Acura dealer price? Here is a pic in the manual and my actual replacement kit with the wrench missing:
Thanks to everyone in advance.
