How many shims do you have here? I had two, and found that closing the trunk took a lot of effort - so much so I swear I could feel aluminum bending under my hand. Rather than having common sense and forking over $2.50 to buy another shim, I made one myself. So far so good. The trunk closes extremely easily now. I've yet to drive at speed with it, though. The trunk lid still seems to line up well with the rest of the body.

I was curious about others' experience in closing the lid.

I believe it is normal to have to push down firmly on the trunk lid to close it. I don't know why you'd have to shim anything unless there was crash damage.

Where are the shims? I have to press on the centre spot under the spoiler and the trunk closes. I'm not really sure of the forces needed as I am very strong.

Gues what? I just looked at it and I also have 3 shims, maybe more as I didn't count them up close. Pretty sure it's 3 shims though. Guess my car was rolled twice.

huh? Strikers? Shims? What? *Tries to find the "this thread is useless without pictures" photo*

Per service manual page 880 not build manual, Shims in hood, rear hatch and rear trunk possibly eles where.

My 91 has 3 shims.

No, your description was perfect. I just got confused and thought you might have been referring to the back hinges with that piece that has a rubber part on it. I also wrongly call both parts the latch when one is the striker and the other is the latch.

You could make your own or fly to Winnipeg and fish mine out of the space between the body and the fender. I can see it I just can't reach it.
