Trunk lid question

I poked around the FAQ on the section of trunk struts and couldn't find any other posts on the forum, so here goes:

When the trunk release is activated, how far is the trunk lid supposed to pop up?

Mine barely pops up, so I have a feeling I may be needing new trunk struts soon.

Yours is normal. The trunk lid only barely goes up when you hit the release button.

When you raise the trunk lid all the way up (with your hands), it should stay up by itself. If it does, your struts are fine. When the struts need replacing, it won't stay up by itself.

Let me further define how much it "pops" open: It doesn't.

Before, it would open just enough to wedge your finger under the trunk lid...now, I use the spoiler to lift the trunk lid far enough to slide my fingers underneath to lift the trunk lid the rest of the way.

I don't think this is normal...or is it?

Sounds the same as mine.

Yours is normal.

And the struts don't have anything to do with opening the trunk lid. They only keep it from closing.
