Hi, Does anyone know how much it is to replace the trunk and rear window cylinders
That hold the Trunk Hatch up? I found my NSX.
Thanks, Dan

They're usually called "struts". Each pair costs around $100. And they go bad after 5-6 years. Very common problem.

You can easily replace them yourself, or a mechanic can do the pair in under half an hour.

Congratulations on finding your car! Best of luck with it.

I don't know if mine have ever been replaced (I've onnly had the car 13 months),but all the struts in my '91 are working just fine.

If they're working just fine, I can assure you that they've been replaced.

I would agree, they've probably been replaced. As for getting new ones, I would recommend contacting Eric Milam at Niello Acura, he offers great discounts on NSX parts, and has been very helpful when I have ordered parts from him in the past.

As for the install, very easy DIY job, if you have an open-ended wrench and a 10mm socket.

I replaced my rear window ones shortly after purchasing my '92 two years ago. But I got the pair cheaper from an online place than what Niello quoted. I think it was A & H MOTORSPORTS. http://www.ahmotor.com/
Very easy to replace, I did it all by myself, but if you have a helper to hold the window up while the old ones are removed and the new ones installed, it's much easier. I couldn't find anything around my house the right length to act as a support, so I held the window up with my head. Not the most comfortable but it worked.

I just replaced mine with a set I bought from Dali racing. The price was really fair. My old set only worked in the warm months. I put the old set up on ebay for the people that live where it is warm all the time.

That means they're starting to go. They'll get worse pretty quickly - bad enough to not work in warm temperatures too.

I assumed so, this is why I am amazed that the bid is up to $35.00 on Ebay. Can these things be rebuilt maybe?

Thanks for the posts on the rear window struts. I wont be able to pick my 91 up till
06-15. Its red 42,000 miles new ac, timing belt changed at 10,000 miles new tires 38,000
all service records. Car was bought 2 years ago by a 70 year old doctor with 5,000 miles on it. Miles are all highway as he travels to different states for work.$30,000 a steal

I know mine are ready to go too. But I've found they work if I hold the trunk up for a few seconds after opening. Weird, it's like they need time to get the pressure high enough to hold up the trunk. BTW, this works for me in cold and warm weather.

That's the way mine work, too. I'm going to get them replaced the next time the car goes in for a regular service.

BTW, this is not unique to the NSX. The trunk/hatch struts have needed replacing every 5-6 years on every Honda automobile I've ever owned (4 to date).
