Truck Struts Failed after 3 months

How long have your trunk struts lasted? I purchased a brand new pair in June and they have worked fine until last weekend. Worked ok in the morning, then went shopping, lifted the trunk up for a few minutes to change CD's. Then all of a sudden it just dropped. The struts feel even worse then the ones I replaced. They won't even assist in bringing the trunk lid up. What gives? Are they just defective? Has anyone else had problems with their trunk struts lasting only a couple of months?

Sounds defective to me. I'd see if the dealer would replace them.
I agree. The trunk struts and engine hatch struts should last 5-6 years, easy.

Parts (other than wear parts like brake pads) come with a warranty (I don't know if it's 3 months or 6 months). Contact the dealer where you bought them.

I'm under the impression that opening & closing the trunk too fast will aid in the failure of the struts. In other words, when you're opening the trunk don't try to go faster than the struts. Given the proper trunk closing technique (lower lid, then push under spoiler to latch) I wouldn't think you'd be closing the trunk too fast...but I've seen people slam them from full open like a regular trunk so I figured I'd mention it.

Same for the glass hatch.

BTW, I've never experienced trunk struts that "assist in bringing the trunk lid up" (like the glass hatch struts do with the hatch). As long as I can remember (same struts on trunk and hatch for the 8 years I've known the car...I think they were replaced a couple years before that) the trunk lid has always needed to be lifted to full open (where the struts then hold it open). Given their age my trunk struts are beginning to fail (glass hatch struts still going strong) when the weather is cooler...but generally if I hold the trunk at full open for a few seconds and/or work the lid up/down over the last 10% of it's travel a couple times the struts will then succeed in holding it open.

Send the struts to strutwise.com and have the struts rebuilt.

I had mine done there last year and the rebuilt struts are better than the original condition.
