My mechanic is going crazy trying to figure out what is causing an intermittent clatter. It is not wheel of brake related. It is a very regular and rapid mechanical clicking, unrelated to speed and seemingly coming from the front middle. The kind of noise you might get if a fan blade was hitting something but that would not seem to be the problem. Used to most often happen when car was cold (and fan would not even be going). Now happens much more often. (First started many years ago). It doesn't seem like much is up front. Could it be abs related (No brake or brake pedal vibration). Anyone seen this?

First, you need to find a better mechanic. There is one in Ft. Lauderdale who is excellent. His name is Dwight and he owns the shop.

Second, a quick search on Prime would bring you to many discussions on this sound. It is the ABS solenoids that are trying to pressurize the system. It is a very easy fix. Either wait until it is raining and get up to about 40mph and slam on the brakes to a complete stop; or do it on a gravel road. Do this a few times and it will solve the problem. You will probably need to bleed the system at some point also.

Third, find a new mechanic.

-Cheers.
