Trip meter still locked up

Seven months ago I went to reset the trip odometer after a fill up and it locked up. I have pressed it in and pulled it out at varying angles, tried turning it left and right and still froze on 335.0; the 5 and 0 are about 3/4 of the way up from being flush with the top of the 33. Any ideas? In the past, pressing the reset rod firmly would free it. If I have to resort to pulling the speedo out, I will wait until I go to the dealer in about another year; I am not lucky at in-dash repairs.

If you think you can change it I have a extra one. Private me.

I pulled out my friend's instrument cluster to change his stuck trip meter. If you have a shop manual and are inclined to do it, it's not a difficult job. Everything came out very easily. When I took it trip meter out, I lubed the gears with WD-40 and everything freed up. Put some light machine oil on the gears and it works perfectly. Everything went together with no problem.

Vytas is right. I did mine too, just be carefull with dismanteling the trip meter itself and the cluster.

Just finished working on it. I never did take the trip meter apart. Removed the gages, took off the front shield, and shot some silicone spray on the dials, and down the shaft of the reset button. Freed right up. Can't believe it took 2-hours to get to, and 10 seconds to fix! I turned the dials with a screwdriver, and it now resets very easily--hope it stays fixed. It was relatively easy, just time consuming.

Mine is now stuck at would you believe the same 335 miles.......I hope you are right about it being fairly easy to pull and lube.

Mine is stuck at 335 too! Has been since I acquired my 93 about 18 months ago. Since she is going to be sitting in the garage for a week before my tech can replace the clutch, I think I just found myself a litttle project!

This problem is typically caused by reseting the tripometer while the car is in motion. This can cause the gears to jamb. Always reset the tripometer at a full stop.

That is interesting. My trip odometer occasionally sticks and won't reset while at a stop. When that happens, I am able to reset it while moving if I wait a while. Perhaps I should not be doing that?

Just finished fixing mine too. Exact same scenario as yours. It was tempting to reset to main odometer to 000000.0 but I was a good boy and didn't touch it.
