I bought a 6spd trans, replaced the cover bc it was cracked, and when the case is tight, it wont shift... the old case was the same way, any ideas?

OK,

It sounds like your shift linkage is not properly aligned with the lever in the case half. Look at the service manual and it will show a view of the lever, and how it needs to be assembled.

There may be a service manual on line, not sure anymore:).

thanks.

Not saying Larry's wrong, but the NSX cases have been known to crack under high stress and heat, such as might occur with repetative track runs..

im not saying its cracked, its a new case and it wont shift when torqued down.

Something that I learned when I rebuilt my tranny last winter was how to seat the main shaft into the snap ring. I have not had a 6 speed apart, but when you put the rear case on the tranny I was having a hard time getting the snap ring to go where it needed to go.

I snugged the bolts on the rear case finger tight and then took the tranny and turned it so the input shaft was up and then held the assembly about 1 inch above a wooden block on the garage floor and let the weight of the tranny drop and seat the bearing.
I don't know if this is your problem or not, but take a look at it.

hey brad thanks for your input, not if that is the problem, but i just know that when the case is tightened the shifter wont shift...

Sean,
What was the final outcome? I am interested in a 6-Speed......do you want a 5-Speed that was just rebuilt with "short gears" last winter. I think that it has about 2K miles on the rebuild.
