tranny help

I just ran my car at the drag strip now and it ran great. Now when i drive it though, 4th gear is locked out, it wont go into 4th at all, like its jammed or something. goes into ever other gear perfectly. need help. thanks

Does it make any noise when trying to put it into 4^th? Did you grind any gears (specifically 4^th) during any of your runs?

Without more info, it is hard to say for sure; however, it sounds like your synchronizer for 4^th gear is gone.

Is it a 5 or 6 speed? I would get the car up on stands, remove the gray plastic cover over the shift linkage, on the underside of th trans(cotter pins hold them on, see the service manual here). You can remove the two shift cables and try to move the shift levers by hand. If it will not move into fourth with the cables disconnected, I am sorry to say, but the trans will need to be removed and rebuilt.

When i drove it to the track and it went into every gear perfectly. At the track we never even went into fourth. Never touched it. i just had timing belt andw ater pump and was wondering if he loosened something to lean the motor forward. its a 5 speed. Every other gear is perfect except i cant even put it into 4 like its blocked.
