Hi guys I was wondering if anyone has payed for track insurance only and with which company? I am one of the statefarm people and need to find coverage. It's tricky because I have my house etc. through them. I was wondering who does track only insurance and how much it costs. This is just for PDE's not for racing.

Thanks
Mark

Re: The search is your friend

The topic has been beaten up pretty good over the years. I would encourage you to do a search and digest the many points of view as well as the provider information you will find. Find the specific information you seek and post your question in that thread as a request for an update to see if it's still current. The market is changing rapidly, but there is plenty of background information that is not.

Best of luck.

I agree with the above...more and more insurance companies are getting smarter and smarter...they will not cover you if you are anywhere near a track...good luck...if you find a company...then let us know...

I am new to track insurance fray, but to start (info current as of 11-2008) check out WSIB Motorsports.

Under products and applications, look for motorsports applications, and then pdf: On Track Driver Education Program

Expensive, but coverage.

This is who we insure our track car with for the entire track season. Premium is around 3% of the declared (by you) value of the car with a $2,500 (I think) deductible.

Feff

I will definately check those guys out though next time I head to the track, since I will not be doing TT or anything for at least a year. That said, my MR2 turbo is the track rat, and I can actually afford to just walk away from or part that one out if something happens.

Thanks for the advice and the tip on the above company, I'll check that out too. One of the issues with simply saying "we'll I'll take the loss if I crash it" is the liability you still face if you hit someone, another car, or the concession stand etc. When you insurance doesn't cover you for a crash it also drops you're liability coverage for these events and that is where things can get really expensive!
Thanks
Mark

Liability is always sticky on a track. On one hand you are assuming some risk by putting your car on a track with others so historically each would go their own way. On the other hand, I have driven at some Ferrari club events where I have been thinking not so much about my own car, but rather, "What happens if my brakes fail and I find the back of the FXX, or 333SP, or F-40 in front of me..."

Re: Could be worse

Here's a guy who wants to know about insurance for actual racing.

Sadly, the more you know, the less you'll be inclined to do. :frown: Good thing I'm too stupid to stop. :wink: {Touch wood}

FYI: State Farm's only exclusion is the following:

6160F RACE OR SPEED CONTEST EXCLUSION
This endorsement is a part of your policy. Except for the changes it makes, all other terms of the
policy remain the same and apply to this endorsement. It is effective at the same time as your policy
unless a different effective date is specified by us in writing.

IN CONSIDERATION OF THE PREMIUM CHARGED FOR YOUR POLICY, IT IS AGREED THERE IS NO COVERAGE AS TO ANY MOTOR VEHICLE WHILE USED IN A PREARRANGED RACE OR SPEED CONTEST.

After talking about this with my agent, he went back to the Underwriters and discussed HPDEs specifically and the "no timing, no racing, no speed contest" of HPDEs. Their response was simple - there is nothing in the policy in writing prohibiting driving on a track - COVERED (once ).
