Track/AutoX Options?

Any recommendations for open track days or autocross in the VA/MD/DC area? I would prefer to play around at Summit or VIR.

I've found several other messageboards on autocross which all suck for the most part and don't have much info. Figured I'd ask NSXPRIME for ideas.

Don't take the NSX to autox, you will see too many miatas doing better than you :) I tried few times and it just did not work out.

I knew you would comment on this one :) I agree but there are better options for autox than the nsx...

Not true. I smoked a lot of cars including S2000s and M3s and miatas. Guess it's the driver.

M3s were my goal to reach and i made it, but only on scca events. I think that was my main point after a random m3 owner told me that i could not do it.

This brings a valid point for me to share. It's important to leave ego at the door. My goals at the AutoX event isn't to "be the best/fastest", I would merely be there for the enjoyment and opportunity to drive the car in a way you can't on the streets.

Of course a Miata may beat me - and I'm sure there are better cars for AutoX, but I wouldn't own a Miata if the damn thing was given to me for free.

Go and auto-x your nsx:smile: There is no magic about that. But since stuff happens so quickly you really need to understand your vehicle dynamics and enjoy the micro analysis that is auto-x.So many beginers go out and atack the course, smoking tires, slamming on brakes, hands flying all over that they learn nothing. Also understand that at the event you will be idle 95% of the time. For track events(which are much more physical/mentaly draining) just google the web for hpde schools that rent those tracks you are close to.There is already a school at summit and vir that has regular events I think Fridays.....

If you are near Richmond or don't mind driving down, the Va. Motor Sport Club (VMSC) runs a series of autocrosses at Richmond Raceway Complex and Va. Motorsports Park. VMP is the larger lot and better suited to an NSX in my opinion.

You can get info and register for events at http://www.vmsc.org. I have autocrossed my NSX, but I usually run my MINI. There was a red NSX at the last autocross as well.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I used to AutoX a MR2 - I have been doing this for fun (rare occassions) since 1996 and was always down in the Richmond area or when I lived in NC- I just haven't taken the NSX out and I want something a little bit more local.

Thanks. I sent you a private message at VMSC.org a couple days ago - still waiting on a reply.

I replied at the VMSC site. PMs are very hard to see on that site if you read new forum posts from the home page like I do. I probably wasn't much help as I have never autocrossed in the DC area. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hope to see you at a VMSC autocross.

BTW, gorgeous car. Like the color!

So what? Seat time is seat time... I used to have an S2000 and used to have an E Stock MR2 that was specifically setup as a nationals level autoX car, but despite the fact that the 'ol NSX isn't particularly a great autoX car, I always feel that some seat time, no matter what type of racing, is great to learn the dynamics of the car. :D Not to mention that it's a pretty fun car to drive except in those nasty slow speed transitions due to the lack of power steering.

I say go for it. :D

Next AutoX is Oct 10th @ FedEx Field. This is a fast course and no Miatas will not beat you there. Vettes are what you gotta worry about.

I hope some more NSX's come out to support me and themselves. My business will sponsor whoever want's to come out. LMK.

Drivers List

Helmets required. They have loaners for free.

Usually goes until 4pm. It is a lot of fun and a good way to learn the NSX. This course is huge and very fast. You'll be in 2nd the whole course.
There is nothing to worry about if you spin out there is nothing to hit except a cone. Hope more come out to these events.

PM me if you need more info.

Nick.

There is also an event this coming Sunday at FedEx, but did not post since we are all going to the party at 1pm, myself included.

I've been autocrossing with the local Benz club for the past year. The club is relatively small (so are the courses) at around 50-80 people, but you get 6-8 runs in a day (3-4 practice in AM, 3-4 for points in PM), and is very newcomer friendly. See http://www.gws-mbca.org/ for more details. No numbers or anything fancy required, but you do need a helmet (loaners provided). The MBCA also hosts track events at Summit Point for members and non-members.

I'm also trying out the local BMW club autocross tomorrow. I've heard the lot is larger, so I may get out of 1st gear.

I have yet to do the local SCCA or Autocrossers, Inc. I did SCCA with my RSX-S in CA, and they always ran a first class event, however they were always large (250-400).

Edit: About smaller cars beating the NSX, I've beaten some Miatas and BSP S2000s in my AS NSX, even on a small tight course.
