I am looking for feedback from those that have experience with the subject track tires - RA1 vs A032R. The sizes I am looking at are
235x40x17 and 275x40x17. The rim I have selected will clear the BremboLotus caliper over a 13" rotor without spacer.

Visiting their respective websites, the only quantitative difference Isee is the UTQG rating - 40AA for the Toyo and 60AA for the Yoko. Other than recommending a wheel width, this tech info on their websites tells me little. Therefore, I resort to the "seat of the pants" qualitative feedback.

I drove on the Yokos yesterday for one session and was quite impressed. Are the Toyos noticeably better? If so, it seams reasonable to begin with Yokos then graduate to Toyos.

Track tires are just like any other tire - they differ in dry traction, wet traction, treadlife, price, etc. Compared with most other track tires, the Yokohama A032R is better on wet pavement and lasts much longer; it's very sticky on dry pavement although perhaps not quite as sticky as the Hoosier or the Kumho track tires.

I never hear about the Toyo track tires.

Also, you can't compare treadwear ratings from one manufacturer to another.

Andy, if you are driving to the track, you better get the 032's. If you are not driving the track tires to and from, buy Hoosiers.

The Toyo RA1's are more sticky than the Yoko A032R's. However, the tradeoff is tire wear. If you plan on driving 100-200 miles each way to the track, you may want to go with the A032R's. I've known people who have gotten 3000-4000 miles on a set of A032Rs in a mix street/track use (8-10 track events). With the RA1's, you're looking at about half of that. FWIW, my last set of RA1's lasted ~10 track days (no street miles)

Although not from personal experience, I got some insight from PD while at the BBQ last year at Laguna Seca. He explained they run Toyo tires in the series for sponsorship, not because they were the tire of choice. He felt that the Yokos and Bridgestone (S02) were in a different league.

The Speed World Challenge cars run on shaved street tires (Toyo Proxes T1-S), not track rubber, and IMO comparable to OEM rubber. Pretty good value in street shoes, but the Yoko AVS Sport, BS Potenza S03 are a cut above.

I think Saint's original post refers to TRACK (R-compound) tires, specifically Yoko A032R vs Toyo RA1. Given that absolute quickness is probably not his goal (hence no Hoosiers), it seems like his key tradeoffs are:
- availability of fitment (fits 17/17 wheels, doesn't rub)
- need to drive R-tires on STREET to/from event
- longevity (?)
- price ( SAINT possibly has deep pockets
