Toyo T1s or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s ?

My back tires are toast (Michelin RE050) and I need to replace my tires. The RE050's are $460 just for the rears and I'm not spending that much, when I can get the T1s' or F1's for 660-700 installed (RE050 are $840). My setup is the 17/17 sizes and the Michelins were OK, but I want a little more mileage than the 6400mi that I got out of the rears. I have got some decent comments from friends on the T1s, but none on the Eagle F1 GS-D3s. I have some T1's on the wifes car and like them, but that's not saying much compared to the NSX. They do seem to have good grip, decent life and OK road noise. I can always try the T1's and use the 500mile/45 day trial offer, but I would rather put a set on that I am going to stay with. Opinions and thoughts are appreciated (except Ken  )
Take care,
John

BTW, The sizes are 215/40-17 and 255/40-17.

 Michelin???

I had 2 sets of T1-S(lasted about 8-10k for the rears) on my NSX and they weren't bad. I found that the Falken 451s were every bit as good for my daily driving and a lot cheaper.

Did you see this thread with the GS-D3 and T1-S?

I like my GS-D3's. Great grip in both dry and wet, plus very predictable at the track :) All that and great wear, too. I can't comment on T1 because I have never had it.

Just the type of comment I am looking for! How are you doing on your rears, wear and mile wise? Would you buy them again? How are they at the limit? High speed smoothness?

I would highly recommend Toyo T1-S, I am using these tires for both of my NSX and Supra. I am very happy with these tires, they are ultra light as well. They are mid range tires, not the most expensive, not the cheapest, great tires for the street.

Straightline is my type of thing . I had Potenza 050 on my Supra before, on WOT situation following 1~2 shift, I could spin the rear tires all the way through top of 2nd gear. With Toyo T1-S when boost hits, tire barely chirp following 1~2 shift. They are also great in rain. I tested recently with the record raining season this winter.

Ditto, I am pleased with mine as well. I am really impressed with the handling in the wet. I have not had them on the track as of yet, maybe in a couple of weeks.
Never had the T1s, I have had the S03s and I am not sure which (S03 or GS-D3) will be my next tire set.

The wear is great. I've had it for about a year now and put on about 6000 miles including drive to NSXpo and 4 track events(each 2 days), and they are worn evenly and still have about 60-70% of the tread. Surprising considering that I have -2.5 degree camber in the rear. The limit of the tire is pretty easy to tell as it will start squealing and never unpredictable. At the track event this past weekend I had the car at 130+mph and never felt scared so I say the high speed smoothness and stability is good. I'll buy them again.

PS. I don't drive agressively much on the street though.

If you still have a lot of tread on your front tires, I would recommend getting another pair of RE050 tires (made by Bridgestone, not Michelin) and waiting until you wear those down to get four new tires. After all, it's a bad idea to use different tires on the front than the rear, and it's cheaper to buy two somewhat-expensive rear tires than to buy four slightly-less-expensive tires. I don't know about you, but I don't like the idea of throwing away perfectly good front tires because I don't have matching rears, and I don't like the idea of risking the unpredictable handling that can result from mismatched tires.

However, if your front tires are pretty worn too, and you're ready to buy four new tires, I think the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is a great choice. They're one of the very best street tires around, but are somewhat less expensive than the others (e.g. Bridgestone S-03, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2). The Toyo T1-S is very good, too, and also less expensive than the S-03, but my impression is that they're just not quite as good as the Goodyear is. Unfortunately, the Toyo is not sold by the Tire Rack, so it doesn't appear in any of their side-by-side comparison tests.

Too bad that you are way out in Cali!

The Toyo's are $599 + shipping from me.
They're cheaper than that from Frisby, and the shipping is from Vegas, so that shouldn't be too bad either. Or, if you go to Vegas anyway, you can get them mounted there (and pay sales tax, but no shipping). The Frisby location near me charges $15/tire mounting/balancing...
