Toyo ra1 tires

The Ra1 was phased out last year. The new tire called the R888 is available now. I would send an email to Bryan S. He has the best prices. Deals Toyos only. Offers shaving (15 bucks/tire).

good luck

I ran 2 seasons on RA1, I liked them alot.

Last 2 season were on R888, same rubber compound as the RA1 but bigger blocks and a stiffer side wall. I like the R888 better on the NSX, seems to give a little better feedback and easier to throttle steer the car. I think it delivers a slightly bigger window for steady state cornering, wider range of slip angles.

Dave- do you make a front camber kit so I can run 235's up front without rubbing issues?

A bit off topic but here is what I have done to help with rubbing on big tires.

The first place 235's rub is the front compliance clamps like Comptech used to make. Years ago I designed a new style that increases clearance by over an inch. SOS and Driving Ambition have been stocking those, plus I try to keep a few on hand if you need them. $195

The next thing was to play with the wheel position under the fender. I have installed spherical mono-ball bearings on the 4 inner pivot points on the front suspension, into those bearings I made step down bushings with offset holes. The bearing still pivots around the stock bearing location but now I can pull the top edge of the tire in and push the bottom edge of the tire out to help with clearance. This is an amazing mod from the stand point of handling, removing the rubber from the front suspension increases grip and control, making the car quicker and much more fun to drive as well as getting clearance. The down side is the clearance comes with negative camber and increased caster, which I wanted, but it may not be for everyone. I have -3 camber degrees now and 9 degrees caster which works very well with a big front sway bar and R888 tires for big tracks. $1260 for both front sides, installed in your suspension.

The biggest factor is still ride height, even with the modifications I am eating my fender liners up because I like the way the car handles when it is low. The nice thing about my set up is I no longer have any metal interference. One of the previous owner had been using large tires with out compliance clamps and had bent the rear edges of both front fenders and cleaned all of the undercoating off the rear of the fender well with the tire. I am only wearing through the replaceable plastic parts that a future owner could raise the car to closer to stock height and put liners back in.

As another data point I run 235/40/17 ra1(until they wear out:redface:) and have the comptech pivot clamps, with comptech sway and nsx-r susp. only place I rub is inner lower well where the Aluminum is nicely polished. As for fender liner rub I get a small briiiippppp :frown: turn 1 at the glen and LRP on the downhill turn.fwiw.

on the rubbing, I get the fender liner as well, my fender liner is pretty much two pieces now... thinking of pulling them out... I also touching the aluminum tap on the top of the fender lip...

fwiw, I need more camber all around, and i just haven't gotten the time to do that.
