Hello all, sad day for car lovers. My 1991 Sebring Silver was one of may cars that perished last week in a large warehouse fire in Pittsburgh. https://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stori...d-in-massive-warehouse-fire-in-etna/947622946

My NSX was in the area that suffered the most damage and fell through the second floor. I'll try to attach some images where I think it is but it looks like molten aluminum. Perhaps someone else with keener eyes can identify some part of the NSX body.

I've already started a claim with Geico and know i'll likely not get what I think it's work (don't we all?) My car had 65k miles, Sebring Silver and 100% stock in beautiful condition. It did have a bumper replace and painted after minor fender bender and interior was spotless. Stock radio fully functioning. I'm going to provide them with NADA values along with Hemmings and Bring a Trailer recent comparable sales. Any advice that others have who have experience going through this would be appreciated.

Others lost a lot more than me, there were some really beautiful cars in that warehouse. Of course the fire alarm and sprinklers never engaged.

Peace,

Jim

For those interested, I sent a drone in to assess the damage. Owners won't be allowed in the building for some time.

That sucks man, I am sorry.

Indeed an unfortunate loss.

Review RacerXwing's market analysis.

It provides a breakdown by year with adjustments for automatic, mileage ..... It may provide you with useful data points if you choose to reject the initial offer. You might want to touch bases with Stirling Sackey who may be able to assist with providing a countering appraisal based upon his sales experience.

Really sorry to hear. That really, really sucks.

Just this week I had a reminder to call insurance to make sure the full cost of the car is covered in case any tragedy considering the value keeps increasing.

The rental agreement had a waiver for fire/flood/acts of god and explicitly stated that insurance must be covered by the tenant. The failure of the fire alarm/suppression can be considered negligence and some are planning a suit.

The owner of the building had to have some insurance coverage, besides your own I would pursue a remedy through legal with the other tenants.

Man this is awful but they are cars and can always be replaced. Many, many more important things in life. On a side note, thanks why I have Hagerty and an agreed upon value policy. I know it's expensive yearly but you get what we pay for in life. Good luck with everything and let us know if you need help fighting the insurance company.

Sorry to hear this. This is my best shot at your ID request. nsx FIRE.jpg

That’s terrible. I hope you get what you are looking for. I work for one of the larger insurance companies, let me know if there’s anything I can help with. Several people I know received a very fair price for their NSX’s that didn’t have an agreed amount.

So sad to read of this. This prompts me to get off my duff and finally change my insurance. So sorry to see this!

Hi Floyd, I've spent hours looking at this photo and at times saw exactly what you have here. Primarily it's been the seats that I kept going back to but I dismissed it since the car was in the opposite direction. When on the second floor is was to the left of the Boxter facing the same direction. I just couldn't imagine how it would have done a 180 turn. But I do think it's possible if the front started to slide as the floor collapsed. Thanks for your forensics help Floyd!

Thanks for the offer Has, I've been uploading photos next will be the service invoices. Hopefully the claim is fair value. Since no-one is allowed in the building yet adjusters can't do their job and everything is on hold. There's rumors they may condemn the entire building.

What an awful sight.
I know it's little consolation, but what I see in your photos is a red rear fire wall, not silver, and that rear strut bar does not look like an NSX to me.
Best of luck with your claim, and be ready to fight hard.
AJ

Perhaps the facility has some insurance that would pay secondary to your auto policy. This way, you might be able to be made whole based on the true replacement cost.

That is sad news! We own a collector car insurance company and the sad news is we find with Gieco they do not have an agreed value offering, agreed value is all that we offer and recommend.

Question, does the storage facility have garagekeepers insurance? If they do you can go after them but you may still end up with KBB or NADA book value since you did not have an agreed value policy. You can also hire an appraisal expert if you want to try to fight your company and you may get a few more buck if you have documentation. Feel free to reach out if you need more guidance.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I thought I'd give an update for those interested. It's been almost six weeks and I'm still not able to get access to the building. The owner said they still need to add reinforcements to the structure before they can get closer to the source of the fire. I have a feeling the building will be condemned. And even if we gain access I'm not sure there's anything left to identify the car. I'm not sure if the storage facility has gatekeepers insurance but the rental agreement waived them for any loss due to fire, flood or acts of god. So it's still a waiting game at this point.

Jim

thanks for the update.....
