Can those Toronto NSX owners recommend who they're preferrred mechanic is ? Why you ask ? Here's my dilema..

I own an s2000 and my Honda dealerships constantly display a gross lack of competence. They appear more adept to working on Odyssey's and civic's than the f20c. It has reached a "worry-some" point as more recently after 2 weeks of tranny work they gave the car back to me WITHOUT REVERSE gear.. yup! How's that for incompetence.. !!!

Is there different training for Acura mechanics to Honda Mechanics ?

Overall, in your view do you think an Acura senior mechanic would be able to diagnose the f20c effectively ?

Do you think an Acura Tranny Specialist as opposed to an Honda Tranny specialist would be able to diagnose the f20c's tranny ?

Thanks for the help

sj,

First off sorry to hear about your issue. But you can just go around the block instead of going backwards right:D.

Anyway to try to answer some of your questions, all cars have their unique service procedures, so a Honda guy working on an Acura and an Acura guy working on a Honda may or may not be the best thing. However the key, IMO, is to work carefully and have good quality control. Obviously they never even tried to back your car up!! How do you service a tranny and not try every gear?

I do not feel this is an Acura/Honda issue at all, you have a basic competence issue with the service department as a whole. With that said you should find someone who works on s2000's even if it is an independent shop. (not sure if this is readily available by you or not).

I know this may not be much help, I just did not want you running to the Acura guy thinking "all my issues are over".

Hi SJ,

I'm not to sure how different the training is between Honda and Acura mechanics but there must some variations due the engine differences.

The only help I can offer is .

1. If the tranny repair is under warrenty then contact Classic Honda in Brampton. I have friend that used to have his own shop and now works as a certified honda tech at Classic honda. Ask the service advisor to speak to Andrew Hendricks and tell him Johnny Matharu referred you and see if he can be of any assistance. I'm not 100% sure what engine Andrew is trained on.

2. If the repairs are going to be paid by yourself, contact Import repair centre. The owner also worked at Honda/Acura as a certified tech and then opened his own shop in Brampton. I had my NSX eibach springs installed and a few minor services preformed there. They only work on Honda's and Acura's and can preform any minor or major factory service as well as performance upgrades including turbo's and superchargers.

Their # is 905-791-CARS

PM me if you need any other info.

Try Magnus Motorsports. Their address is: 180 Winges Rd. Unit #22, Woodbridge ON, L4L 1A8. Phone # is 905-264-1989. I believe that is somewhere in the Toronto area. Mo - Elite.

Sherway Acura has great experience with NSX's, and I always take my car there even though it's totally out of the way for me. My preferred tech there is Steve. Neil Anderson is the service manager there, and a great guy as well.

Hey Arshad,
That's ironic what you said Sherway Acura ... a few years back I swore I would never take my NSX there again.
They charge me 3 hours labour to tell me my battery was week!

Ouch! That sucks! So far I've had very good experience with them. I originally went to them when my local dealership (Acura North Toronto) said they couldn't do my alignment because "the car is too low for our lift" -- and this was a stock vehicle! Someone mentioned Sherway and when I went to check out their service bay, I saw about 5 NSX's there so I figured that at least they have some experience working with NSX's unlike the other dealership! Anyhow, since then I've been going there regularly and have been quite happy with their service and professionalism.

So Daria, where do you take your car? It would be nice to find a place that does good work and is closer than Sherway which is really out of the way for me.
