alright forum nazi, don't flame me yet. i've read all of the posts (i hope!) regarding this topic, but still have a question. if i am experiencing 'shrinkage' -- wait, let me rephrase that--- if the top molding on my windshield is experiencing shrinkage, do i have to replace the molding AND the fastener?
it would be nice to not have to purchase the fastener as well, since that is the hefty priced item. (well, $56 as opposed to the $30 for the molding).

i know many of you have done this. any help would be appreciated!

I had mine replaced about a month ago. I only needed the molding, the fastener was not required. I will note that I tried to do the job myself but the old one was tearing to shreads as I pulled it off. I had to have some service done anyway so I left the new molding with them. They had their glass guy replace the molding.

Call Basch Acura, they would know. When I had mine replaced last year, the windshield had to be removed, and the top and bottom pieces had to be replaced. I don't know if that includes the fastener or not.

The windshield on my NSX was replace about 6 months ago and all of the molding were replaced except for the top molding. The glass tech told me the molding supplied by the local Acura dealer was not an exact replacment and didn't fit properly, so he used the original which was still okay. Hope that helps.

I just had my top molding replaced last week on my 92. The dealer sent it out to their glass shop vendor and they only replaced the top middle molding section. The windshield did not need to be removed. I believe it only took a couple of hours and a total cost of $130 and change. I'm pretty sure that's all they changed since that is the only part I ordered and paid for.

I pulled my molding half way off, pulled on it to stretch it, put it back in, and no more shrinkage. It has worked so far.

I replaced just the molding in about 10 minutes. I came right out and I slide in the new piece with the extra "tabs" at the end to avoid future shrinkage.

thanks for all of the replies. maybe i'll try stretching first. (always open to the cheapest solution!) then, if that doesn't work i'll order the molding.

thanks
