Top Speed: Typical Reaction

Maybe it's just me, but did you ever notice that whenever someone asks "How fast can that go?", I'll generally respond "Hmm, about 160." Response is almost guaranteed to be "Oh, is that all?"

Sheez, I guess having a car go almost 100MPH over legal speed limits just ain't enough.

Oh, well, just b*tching.

The world is full of bench racers. There is no way they can articulate to you *why* it is they feel that 160mph isn't enough, they just know that a Vette (or whatever) can beat it so it must be "too low".

I tell people that the mission of the NSX was autocrossing and that, on the autocross, obscene top speeds and insanely low 1/4 miles times aren't what win the day.

The Motortrend article with the Z06, NSX, 911 shootout is a supreme example. Look how close Millen's lap times were in the three cars. The enormous acceleration and HP advantage of the Z06 was basically nullified by having to track it. The extremely well balanced track manners of all three cars, however, ensured that the 3 cars were within 1 sec of each other.

Yes.. I'm asked that all the time.. along with the especially annoying.. "how much did it cost" My answers are:

I don't know. I don't drive that fast. and

Why do you need to know? do you want to buy one? .. or...

I don't know... I don't pay the bills

I usually respond that the magazines tested it at 168 mph.

"I can exceed the freeway speed limit by 20mph at the end of the on-ramp in SECOND gear".

Usual response is:
"Wow!"
