I just finished watching last week's Top Gear from BBC Channel. Unfortunately I do not have the VHS...

Anyway they were asked from Honda UK to test the '02 NSX-R (the one with German plates that was used by Best Motoing on the Nurburgring) and to give an opinion wether to import it in the UK or not... afterall only 8 NSX were sold there last year!

They use a track specifically for this every week and the NSX-R made the best time ever on the wet (it rains 90% of the time there

) matching the Noble...

NSX-R 1.33 min
Noble 1.33 min
Ferrari 575 1.35 min
Aston MArtin Vanquish 1.36 min

As reference on the dry the Murcielago did 1.29 and the Pagani Zonda did 1.27.

Verdict? "Yeah, let's import it!"

PS: maybe some UK friend in NSXPrime did record it? Or even better has a digital copy for the oversea audience?

Thats pretty impressive, coz i think they take off 4 seconds for wet versus dry on that track.

Shame i missed that one............

From there website:

Also taking to our circuit was Honda's NSX Type-R. It's not officially coming to the UK (so we're protesting by not making a big thing of it on the TG website), but the big chiefs at Honda shipped it over to have a go at smashing the record laptime. It did a credible job, too - especially as it's powered by a relatively small 3.2-litre V6. All the Honda cam-trickery and the lighter stripped-out Type-R shell meant Stig posted a time of 1min 33sec in the wet. Not far off the pace at all, but the Westfield's 1min 23sec record still stands.

...whoever posts a digital version of this NSX-R review will be the most popular person on NSXprime for the rest of the year...

(if that's not an incentive to post it soon, i don't know what is!!!

Bad thing (good in terms of putting it in digital format...) is that the track test is about 2 minutes long. It is not their classical car review (15 min) but only the lap test to check how good the car is compared with the other exotics they tested. And it is good!

Since we're on the subject, have anyone here seen the recent Dec.'02 issue of BestMotoring? They pitted our beloved Type-R against the Murcielago, F50, Porsche GT2, Gemballa Porsche GT500, and Porsche 996 S4. 2 laps around Sugo Circuit. The results will surprise you....

Wanna know?

I saw the episode of two weeks ago and the Audi RS6 did an awesome laptime on the wet, the same that was posted by the NSX-R on the wet (1:33).

Do you think it is because of the 450hp or because of the "quattro" four-wheel drive traction?!

I have taped the NSX-R lap but haven't seen the RS6 lap. The NSX-R was not only on a wet track but acutally in pouring rain. Was the RS6 under similar conditions ??
Even so, it case of the RS6 it would probably be the combination of its AWD and it's power-output.
Also, the higher cornering-ability of the NSX-R cannot be played out in full on a wet track and certainly not on a short track as they used in TopGear.
Judging from the data on www.track-challenge.com the RS6 and NSX-R are about equal in the acceleration department. From the track-data it seems though the RS6 can accelerate quicker on the straights only to loose again in the corners and in the braking department.
Since no-one seems to have dynoed the NSX-R (I wish someone did) we can only quess how much power it really has. But reading about the strenght and stability of the chassis and suspension I wonder what a stronger engine could do for the NSX-R for it's track laptimes.

One thing comes to mind though.

Since the NSX-trophy stuff doesn't start until May, would it not be possible to have the NSX-R present at at least on of the trophy-races ??

I would love to check out that car and I think every NSX-owner and enthousiast would do the same...

Is possible to purchase top gear videos?

even better... has anyone seen this top-gear review on the net for download? (even just the filename) i haven't seen anything from my searches...

Trinity: "What do we need?"
NeoNSX : "an NSX... lots of NSX's..."

NeoNSX, I have the same problem. A lot of Top Gear stuff is available on the net but mostly old reviews (until 2001), when Tiff was still there. Nothing about the last year's tests like Pagani, NSX-R, Murcielago, F575 vs Vanquish, GT2, ...
