impressive .....out on open airfields without reference points the speed is less alarming...now 214 on your local interstate would seem ridiculous....
 
Any cross wind during your run?

moderate but only at a slight angle. mostly tail wind. and regarding 200 on the interstate.. well, done that too, and it was more daunting doing the air strip, because i was able to keep my foot into it much longer. and i can assure you, there is nothing unalarming (to me) about doing 200+ regardless of where you are.

You are right about that.

Sometimes I wonder if doing it on the dry lake bed is actually easier, since you can recover from a side slip.

But on a tar top surface, there is so much grip and your aero is pushing down so hard that 99% of your worries is about rolling the car if it should slip.

Maybe if you put a rudder on the car then you can use slippery tires and drive it like an airplane.
