I am thinking about getting a CF front hood with the scooped or cut out area in the center (like the ones Chris has on the SOS website). My question is, what happens when it rains??? Is there some sort of screen or does water enter into the spare tire area? Thanks for the insight,
Aaron

I dont drive my car in the rain as it is not my daily driver but I have a viewpoint on this as I just got my scooped hood yesterday, its a dali twin scoop and it and most of the others I looked at have a mesh screen altough I dont see the sceen as preventing water to enter the front compartment.btw I think the CF hood on SOS from cris is the bomb and worth the extra dough as its only a couple hundred more then converting a oem.good choice.now as to rain entering thru the scoops.remember why we buy scooped hoods.its not just because they look cool.air enters the front airdam infront of the radiator..that air then enters the front compartment it then has to go somewhere..right?well with out the scoop it goes under the car creating lift (bad)with the scoop the air does not exit under but up thru the scoops across the top of the car and to the back across your rear wing thus pushing both your front and rear down and holding your car to the ground so the theory goes.SO with that said if its raining the wet air will enter the compartment as it does without the scoop but be forced up and out the top thru the scoops.how much I quess would depend on how hard its raining and how fast your driving (slow I hope in the rain)so I doubt it makes much of a difference in the amount of water entering the compartment.with front mesh grills maybe even less. I will find out for sure when I do get caught out in a storm.lastly I dont think the scoops do the job until you are running pretty fast so that upward pressure may not be present to kick out the rain wanting to enter there at lower driving conditions due to the rain.I just dont see it as a big deal.but when its dry and you are running fast or tracking the car I think you will be happy with the scoops.I think the benefit outways the downside.its good to look at both.

If it rains with the factory hood on, the spare tire compartment still gets wet - the bottom of the car is open. I don't think there is anything in there that can't handle a little water.

I was really more concerned about when the car is parked and it's pouring outside. I'm sure that it won't be a problem when in motion.

ps- I can not tell a lie, I want it for the looks. I have a diffrent car that I care MUCH less about for my track use/abuse.

This brings another question. Do you cover the scoop when you wash the car or let the water stream down?

Nothing under the scoop is going to be hurt by water pouring on it. Anything remotely water sensitive is up higher and/or away from the very center.

I've had my Dali twin-scoop hood for about 20 months now, and its fine in all conditions.

Even under the wash... note that I do NOT carry the spare tire and carrier, as the small wheel does not fit over my 13" brake rotors.

When the car is running, theres a lot of HOT air running under there (combination of fan-driven, and airflow), and I've never noticed any water-related problems (battery, etc).

just installed my hood.looks great BUT as each car is custom built and fit and I used a donor hood I have a little more space around the headlight area then I expected.and I did spend a good amount of time moving it around for the best fit.just an FYI to those considering a donor hood (my oem is going up for sale in the market area tonight.I will take some pics and post my install so you can get a feel for what it would look like with a donor hood.if I had to do it again I would send off my oem as the fit was perfect for my car.back to the water.I am not concerned at all with water in the compartment but what about excessive space around the headlights?any wiring their to be concerned about?

All the OEM hoods should be interchangeable. There are adjustments for positioning but the shape of the hood should be identical from one to another.
