Tlx pmc

what a damn waste.

a car that no one asked for.

lipstick on a pig.

ikeda just failed his first assignment as "brand manager." he forgot the performance part of Precision crafted performance.

Wow! 290 hp from a 3.5L V6! That’s mind blowing bruh!
Acura, you never stop impresssing since 1991. Your hp figures prove it.

If they put a stick shift in it, I will buy it. Otherwise, it’s just meh to me.

They have to keep the guys building the NSX busy somehow. I’m sure they are ecstatic to be making a special edition TLX. That’s why they were hand picked to build the NSX in the first place. And wait until one of these Valencia Red TLX needs to have paintwork. They don’t even make touch up paint for the Andaro paint.

I haven't had a reason to call the NSX Specialists in a couple of months.

It will be interesting to hear their take of this.

To me it is pretty bad.

Not enough work to run the ultra low volume factory, so you use it to hand build a run of 360 $50K cars, also at a loss.

Total lame experimental...

I think this is an indicator that the NSX is going on life support soon.

Look, Honda is a big company and can afford to lose a few bux on the NSX program.

Bigger picture, they are in Formula 1, Indy car racing and xyz other motorsports. And with all that the NSX is their only commercial high performance vehicle. I am kinda dumbfounded that with all that motorsports activity, they don't have more go go cars to sell the public.

It’s got a better chance of moving than the MDX PMC edition. Based on the take rate I see of TLX A-Specs versus MDX A-Specs? Ehhh. There’s a chance they’ll sell a few. Not at $50k though. Look at the incentives they’ve already got going on for TLXs. Ugh.

Prediction: DSMs will start strong arming dealers by forcing them to take a PMC Edition in order to get an allocation of something more desirable (like MDX Tech hybrids). Then the PMC sits around on the ground as long as your last ZDX did until you eventually blow it out for 12 under. Tell me I’m wrong.

No increased performance? You want $4,000 for paint and four extra horsepower? Real easy decision, Acura. We'll stay with our 2008 TL Type-S, 286 hp, Moroccan Red Pearl, 117,000 miles. :frown:

I was thinking the same thing.

In addition, I think the term "hand made" is loosely used here. When I hear hand-made, I think of craftsmen building parts such as the specialist at Bentley or Rolls Royces building dashboards from wood. Perhaps it is possible that the seats and steering wheel on the TLX are hand stitched?

Perhaps "hand assembled" is a better term?

Yes, I agree. I love my '07 TL-S and cannot image switching to a TLX.
I've always appreciated how the lines on the door inserts that mimic the NSX doors. :)

Only 350 will be made, so everyone gets 1 unit. Worst case is we turn it into a service loaner.

UA7 squad ftw.
2007 w/165k going strong.

Anyone who pays 50k for a 290 hp TLX seriously needs a life coach. Or at minimum, test drive a different brand...

The original NSX's factory in Tochigi, Japan eventually started producing other cars, too. However, they were a little more exciting in that they consisted of the 9,000 RPM Honda S2000, and the Honda Insight (the original hybrid car, made from aluminum and capable of 61 mpg on the highway).

I love my minty /94 NSX -- 53,000 miles great car. You know what I love almost as much? The spare car we wisely kept when we updated our fleet -- 04 TL with 172,000 extremely trouble-free miles on the clock. Only two mechanical issues in 15 years and all those miles -- a/c compressor a year ago cured with an OEM Denso compressor delivered to my door for $225 and a failed AF Sensor that cost me $400 with labor at dealer. Nothing else other than normal maintenance all those years/miles.

Mercedes launched an advertising campaign some years ago -- "Faithful." The tag line was "nothing will make a driver more faithful to a car than a car that is faithful to its driver." That sums up how I feel about the Gen III TL. If I could find one bubble wrapped with only delivery miles I'd pay full sticker. The TLX is not in the same league as the Gen III TL. A $50,000 TLX? That has to be a joke. As for the Merc commercial that was a nice piece of propaganda. I shudder to think what it would cost to keep a Benz on the road 15 years/172,000 miles. If anything like my 2015 Audi A6 3.0T (which has been more trouble in 3.5 years/35K miles than the old TL over its entire life) my guess is it would be a wallet draining experience.

When Jon Ikeda took over the helm at Acura I was hopeful that we'd see a sedan again as nice as the Gen III TL. So far, nothing. Come on Jon. Please. I'd like to ditch the Audi and come back home.

.

I have had an S class with 325,000, an AMG with 240,000 and I still have two E classes, one with 260,000 miles and my maintenance costs have not been much more than my MDX with 209,000 miles.

But you have the Master Jedi LarryB in your locale. I'm sure he keeps the Benz's running strong.

The last BMW I owned was far more reliable than my 2010 MDX is.

I acknowledge that Honda/Acura quality these days is not what it once was. The newest Honda/Acura we have in our extended family is an 07 TL so I'm probably living in the past. Perhaps the slip in quality has to do with the increasing complexity of modern vehicles and as my good friend and 25+ year master Acura tech suspects, the fact that Honda/Acura now has to compete with the likes of Hyundai/Kia who deliver product with similar equipment at a lower cost (all good if they don't catch on fire). He is on the front lines and one of his observations is that the quality of certain components of the newer Acuras is not as good as in the past.

Many of the agencies that report on reliability (Consumers Reports, JD Power, etc.) have assigned Audi a high rating over the past few years. My experience and that of a good friend has been quite to the contrary (/15 and /16 A6 3.0T) so much so that my friend exited Audi ownership after less than two years and 20,000 miles. Happy that RSO has had positive experience with MB at such high mileage. I can only speak from personal experience and the most troublesome vehicles I've owned have been from the Fatherland whereas the most reliable have been from the land of the rising sun. Not knocking anyone who believes in the superiority of the German cars. To each his own.
