i'm putting in some springs on my car and well it's going ok but taking rediculously long. pretty much i have all day tommorrow to finish the driver side and the passenger front.
i've done springs on other cars such as my E36 M, mk4 supra and a few hondas back in the day. like i said i'd appreciate any advice that can experdite the process so i can get it done tommorrow. i have all the tools i need. the passenger rear took me 2.5-3hrs to do. i got stuck trying to take out the front shock assembly. I did check the DIY but it's unclear about some things.

My best advice is for you to pay someone $275.00 to do the job, meanwhil you can go out and enjoy a round of golf.

I used a floor jack and my trusty "Wonder Bar" (the right length/shape to fit through the lower arm) to put counter/up pressure on the bottom perch of the spring. Came out fairly easy without putting too much down pressure on the suspension.

A very large screwdriver also helps guide out the bottom of the shock so it does not mar anything.

thanks guys. im more concerned about the front shocks as that is my point of frustration at the moment. the 3 bolts are out and the bottom shock bolt is out. i loosed the sway bar link to allow some play but didn't get much. pretty much what the situation is; is that the bottom shock with the through hole is stuck in the "U" mount pretty tight. i'm also using spring compressors to aid but to no avail at the moment. i'll resume tommorrow. stopped today at 6 after 5 hours on the job. hope to devote the entire day tommorrow to this.

Des.

Keep them coming. thanks.

Long piece of 2x4. There's a diagram somewhere that it actually works well apparently. Search some more. It's recent within the last month or so. Also someone mention using BIG hose clamps to keep the springs compressed. They seemed to have good luck with that. Just search a lil harder and you'll find it.

i've always seemed to notice that people are inclined to try and "cheat" whenever I catch myself doing this I try to step back for a moment and look at the big picture . I have done this job many-many times and personally I find it faster, easier and just generally less stressful to just take a few more bolts out to prevent "prying and pulling" and also less risk of scratching/bending/denting something. In my shop I sometimes walk by somone else trying to "cheat" and say to them "why don't you just take out this bolt and that bolt and you'll be done"
just my 2 cents:smile:

you know i did that yesterday and then i thought to myself(being an engineer) there must be a way to safely take out this strut with fewer steps and less effort in my part. but if i can't find that way then i'll go the old fashion way and just take out bolts.

I just did this tonight, all I had to do was remove one upper control arm bolt on the chassis side. Unbolted the sway bar at the bushings, and everything came out nice and easy. Going back in was significantly easier, but I'm done for the night.
