First off, I've been reading this forum for about a year, since I bought my car in May 2001. I must say this site is great and I found it really helpful when buying my car, which is a 1991 black on black with 43000mi on it - and I love it!
Now to my question, I've searched the FAQ and have seen a range of prices for the timing belt/water pump replacement, but since these are US$ it's kinda hard to compare what I'm being quoted. I asked for an estimate for the timing belt since I don't know the history and I was told they do the water pump too, and the hoses etc. Fine. The mechanic also said that my cam plugs(? rubber plugs in the engine) are weeping oil and should be replaced if the timing belt's being done. The whole job labour estimate is 14 hours @ CAN$74/hr. Is 14 hours high? I get the impression it is. It was also mentioned that the valves would be checked and adjusted if necessary - would this account for a longer labour period?
The total parts estimate was CAN$1083, with the biggest part prices being:
water pump kit (19200-PR7-305) 1 @ CAN$404.06
timing belt 1 @ CAN$176.11
something that says "adj comp timing" (14510-PR7-A01) CAN$106.06, and
some other cryptic description "pkg set.head co" (12030-PR7-010) 2 @ CAN$91.50
The rest of the parts are mostly under CAN$50 (I got a full detailed quote).
The quote is from the Ottawa (Ontario, CANADA) Acura dealer (Camco) and I just want to have a good feeling that the quote isn't off in left field.
Thanks for any input.
