Need some help...'91 w/60k miles. While doing a routine check on my wheel bearings/hubs, I noticed a slight knocking sound when I grabbed the right front wheel at 12 & 6 o'clock and did the "movement" test. The wheel had no play in it at all...Upon further inspection I discovered that the noise is actually coming from the tie rod. When I grab it and attempt to move it in an up/down motion, I hear a slight knocking sound which seems to emanate from the area under the boot portion of the rod. There is no measureable movement from the tie rod, just the sound. Steering is fine..no noises, bumps, wandering, etc. Any ideas?...Thanks.

Have you had the car in for an alignment recently? They go over everything b4 they do the alignment and will catch any thing that needs attention. The tie rod may be comming to the end of it life or the lubraction have just dried out.

At least you don't need ball joints $$$

Anything loose in the steering system is a real safety concern. Run it by your dealer/mechanic and ask an expert.

This is another example why I patronize my Acura dealer even though they might cost more than another vendor - they will do something like this at no charge for a regular customer.

Yeah...I talked to my Acura tech about it...He didn't seem too concerned, but he is going to have a closer look when I take it in this week...Just wanted to know what to expect...I'll let you know what they find.

Thanks.

THE TIE ROD QUESTION

I just checked my 92, with 62k miles. NO play or knocking....all very tight.
Sounds like it's time to spend some money at the alignment shop!! Thats money well spent!!!!!
