Speak of the devil. So John starts talking about the recent increase in CHP presence on the freeways in the other thread and lo and behold I was pulled over a few hours ago in Malibu. I was on my way to do a few hours of driving on Mulholland Hwy and I figured before I started driving I would stop and eat. All I wanted was a damn shrimp burrito from Howdy's, so I pulled into the Malibu Country Market area. All of a sudden I see a motorcycle cop behind me. I feathered the gas pedal like crazy and managed to keep the exhaust quiet. He ended up cutting off another car to get behind me and then followed me for about 30 seconds. In the end he pulls me over. For what you ask? Well, I guess he had no reason at first other than to pick on me. He checked the engine bay and found nothing  Apparently I had multiple violations (seatbelts, exhaust, and whatever other BS he was going to make up) but in the end he only cited me for not having a front plate. Probably because I was VERY VERY VERY polite....... Believe me, I wanted to go off on the guy but i'm not quite at that point in life where I can do that. I'll give that a few years

What do I think about this? It's complete BS! I wasn't speeding. I didn't disobey any traffic laws. All I did was get caught at the wrong place at the wrong time. In the end it doesn't matter how slow I drive or how carefully I obey the traffic laws, they'll pull me over. How frustrating! I'm now convinced that these CHP officers are complete morons and are just jealous because i'm 22 years old and i'm driving a car that they'll never own. They can all go ---- (you fill in the blank) themselves for all I care. Protecting the public my ---. They're just a bunch of losers who weren't intelligent enough to do something worthwhile in life so instead they resort to writing tickets for a living.

So i'll go ahead and pay the ticket this time, knowing that this is how the "game of life" is played. To think that I go out of my way to obey the traffic laws and this is what I get? So I guess I just push on from here and work hard at what i'm doing so i don't ever have to worry about this petty crap again. In the meantime i'm going to adopt the "you've got to pay to play" mentality and invest $1800 for a lifetime CHP 11-99 membership and a stupid license plate frame. How sad that it has to come to this.

The CHP 11-99 foundation lifetime membership is now $5000 for the primary member and $2500 for a family member joining at the same time. Police do have a certain amount of discretion when it comes to writing tickets. Lets face it, safety is the reason their there. If somebody supports an organization that supports their fallen colleagues they are going to be looked upon favorably. Nature of the beast. There are no guarentees that you will be treated differently and I suspect it may depend on the agregious of the violation. Nevertheless , again there are no promises implied or promised. I think this organization is brilliant. These guys are dying out there for ya, and I for one, am glad to be a friend and have a way to express my thanks.

Don't join for any other reason than to support the families of the brave men and women of the CHP. Incidently, seven of which have given their lives in the last 11 months. If you're joining with an expectation of receiving a break forget about it (italian accent)

i have a membership sticker on my back of my car.
i still get pulled over and still get tickets.... got 3 in the span of 4 month.

going on 6 in the last year. fighting them all and winning 3 for 3 so far. Knock on wood.

some times cops can be real hot heads on power trips. so far i do not have very good impression of police officers.

the cars by our complex gets broken in once a month like clock work. my neighbour had 2 cars broken in on the same day, 2 cars in the family have been broken in and friends in the complex share the same story.

the police dont seem to do anything about this rampant theft but there is always this on bich woman police officer that drives around giving out tickets at 9pm. Never see her do anything useful in 2 years of living here. they should be driving around the block at 2am catching crooks. also what happens when you make a police report? it takes them 4 hours to drive 4 miles to come and take the report.

waste of tax money.

Don't feel too bad. I got pulled over 4 times in 2 months in my nsx this winter. However no tickets just threats that if they ever catch me doing something, they're gonna impound my car. Giving me the excuse of "You LOOK like you were going fast" Oh I did have to do a field sobriety test, when the drunk guy was the rich old "non minority" guy in the hummer who nearly rear ended me in a parking lot, that they let go w/o even checking his ID.

They were never in front of me though, just behind and they never mentioned any exhaust, mods or plate violation. Just wanna run me through the system and send a point they don't like me because of either my race or age AND the car.

about 11-99 foundation.

The join page is GONE. Is it no longer offered, or is "underground" now? I think it's gone underground since I've read that you have to be REFERRED by another member.

Here's an archived page of what the JOIN page used to look like along with pictures, btw read the article, it's interesting:
http://web.archive.org/web/20060221042546/www.chp1199.org/membership.htm

Then here's another article on on the foundation entitled "Culture of Corruption". Also has a picture of the plate.
http://zo-d.com/stuff/automotive/1199-foundation-license-plate-frame-culture-of-corruption.html

strangly, i've NEVER seen those plates before...

At the risk of harshing your buzz, no front plate is technically breaking the law. That being said, I've driven past many a CHP with no front with not so much as a second look.
I have had the whole "I pulled you over for your exhaust" move. I will admit this is upsetting. Made worse by the fact that 3 Harley's just went by that make your head vibrate from the noise:rolleyes: .
I have actually looked into becoming a CHP officer becouse they make more than I do, so I think its possible for one of them to own an NSX.
The CHP are just poeple in uniforms. There are going to be good ones and bad ones.
I agree that it is a royal pain in the ass, but this seems to be part of the experiance of owning an NSX.

They don't follow Camrys, "family" SUVs, minivans and there are tons of those cars.........go figure. If driving slow, distracted, yacking on the cell isn't against the law then I don't know what is. All I want is consistant enforcement....... if speeders and quick lane changers get tickets then slow drivers who block traffic, looking at accidents (if not helping or involved),and drivers who drive slow then realize they are missing their turn/exit and MAKE THAT KIND OF UNSAFE LANE CHANGE should get a f******* ticket. I was going on the EB 105 and had a driver wait in the painted island that separates the NB 605 from the SB 605. She did all this while getting in front of me and driving slow. Unsafe lane change!!! Where's the CHP????? I don't expect any special favors. It's not that hard to find distracted drivers. I was next a CHP unit and this lady in a van signaled at the last minute (about 1/10 of a mile) and left her blinker on. He was letting her in. She never made a move. She was a distracted driver. All that clown did was get on his PA speaker and threatened to pull her over. Given the exact circumstances and if I'd have made the lane change normally with my NSX,I'd have a ticket. What if I jerked the car into that lane space? What if I took that space at 70 or 75? Nobody deserves to be killed in the line of duty and the victims are their families. That's what state employee life insurance is for. I'm not paying extortion money to get out of a ticket. So 11-99 this (8=D).

I got a front frame you can use as a FIX-IT remedy so you don't have to pay.

+1!!!
One of the biggest things that piss me off is when one officer pulls over an off duty officer for a violation then lets him go no matter how big the violation is all because of "Officer Courtesy".   It’s one thing to uphold the law, but every cop I have ever met acts as if he or she is above the law!

I wouldn't piss on any of them if they were on fire.
Tickets for the most part are just another revenue source for the already over taxed public.
Granted, without them there would be no law and order. But 99% are just power tripping pricks with a badge.
Just like calling 911 is like calling dial a prayer....worthless.

I'm sure there are a few,or perhaps many, good, honest local cops out there. I respect them and thank them for doing their jobs. Without them and their hard work the area I live in would be trash, which wouldn't be good..... I thought about it however...... and $5000 isn't worth it, nor is $1800 or even $100. I'm not going to support an organization like that with my money. I'd much rather hand out money to homeless kids in TJ or donate my money to an animal shelter. They can give me as many tickets as they want, it won't matter to me eventually. I'll make sure I let them know how little I care  On another note I completely disagree with you when you say that they would still give me a ticket if I had the plate frame and a membership card. Unfortunately this is the real world where money and power are more important than doing what's morally right. So let's play ball....... It seems like others on here have had experiences similar to mine, so my general consensus that most cops are _____________fill in the blank____________ is correct....

Poor little fella.
Have a cup of cocoa, a couple of cookies, and take a nap with your teddy bear.

You sir are a joker

I don't ever recall saying that. I joined for the sole reason of my father (who passed away last year) being a former CHP officer and so I donated to an organization he loved so much.

Anytime, peace to you, yours, and your Father.

There's much emotion in this thread so please let's not toss more on it.

I was thinking about this yesterday. My step-dad was LAPD and he was an absolute royal prick and as corrupt as they come. However, in general it seems to me that those 'older school cops', my step-dad and his cronies excluded, were a more decent group in general. The current generation of LE seems to have larger chips and smaller members to be compensated for. I would say that most everyone I know despise cops. It didn't use to be so...

Cops are just out to make money.

Technically they're not out to make money for themselves. I also believe that they do NOT have a quota. I do believe that it's called, "Job Security". The more tickets they give, the more chance they'll still be there the following year.

Where I lived last, the city had enough money to hire X amount of officers. Instead, they hire X times 2, number of officers. All of them with the knowledge that they'll be laid off soon. So what do they do? Give out tickets like a pediphile gives out candy to children on halloween. The more tickets they give, the more valuable they will be to the city. Bottom producers get the axe.

So they are out just to make money. so that means we all have to take there bull crap so they could have a job every year.

Here is the misinterpreted statement then:

If you're joining with an expectation of receiving a break forget about it (italian accent)

Maybe i've been partying too much lately........

So, you think joining the CHP 11-99 foundation would have gotten you out of this ticket?
It would be cheaper to hire an attorney to fight it, way cheaper......
