The long awaited registration packet for the third annual NSX exclusive Niello Acura sponsored High Performance Driving School at Thunderhill Raceway Park on 9/3 is now available.
Please note that this event is open to NSXCA members only. If you are not a member, we can process your application when you register. Our previous events have drawn over 40 NSXs!
Since time is of the essence in giving you ample notice to register with our "early bird" special, and since our web is not uploaded with the registration packet yet, I will be happy to e-mail the Registration/Application Form (Word document) so you have at least a few weeks to read and send you applications via mail.
If you choose to do this via on-line and using PayPal, then at least you will have the opportunity of knowing what is in the application, that is until our systems are up.
This year, to entice early enrollment to help us with assessing where we are with the budget as well as instructor needs, if we receive your application with payment by August 1, the registration fee is $175. After August 1, it will be $200.
Once again, Niello Acura is offering free tech inspections during the week of August 19.
Given the success of the Monday night dinner/social at our last track event (4/23 at Thunderhill), we have decided to continue this tradition, and once again, we will have most of the goodies from our sponsors to those who attend the dinner. The feedback regarding the menu selection from our 4/23 event was for the most part quite favorable - even though some complained it was no match to SF cuisine! Well, what can I say ....... LOLL! I will see if we can further improve on that at $20 per person.
If you would like to sponsor our event with gifts or raffle donations, drop me an e-mail or give me a call. We advertise all sponsors, big and small with their logo on our Thunderhill track event web page.
We have again confirmed the group rate of $53 per person/room at the Golden Pheasant Best Western. Deadline to reserve this rate is August 26.
As for the program, we are targeting the same format as our 4/23 event with 3 run groups and 5 sessions (each about 25-30 minutes) depending on enrollment and/or instructor availability. Since demand for in car Instructors has been relatively high at our track events (this is a good thing), their availability is key to securing 3 run groups with 5 sessions.
In order to offer the more advanced students additional challenges, the advanced group will be allowed to pass anywhere on the track if and only if the lead car shows a point by pass. [We strongly recommend that all passes be done off line and to the inside line going to the next turn .... remember this is still a driving school]. This will be our first departure from our previously stricter passing rules, all as part of hearing the feedback of students and recognizing the level of advanced students that we now have.
Time permitting, we will allow some fun runs around lunch time but without formal time lapping equipment. If you want to participate, use your friends to time your laps. I checked with Thunderhill, this is ok with the track insurance coverage policy that we are purchasing from the track, however individuals need to check with their own insurance companies/policies.
We are exploring the possibility of having a car control clinic on the paddock (between the hot pit entrance and turn 14-15). This will be for a couple of hours, might help those on the sidelines who are not ready for the track, spouses or significant others/friends to also participate. We want to make this event accessible to all NSX enthusiasts. Thunderhill is ok with this as long as we do not keep burning donuts. Our focus would be something along the lines of what we did at NSXPO99, or the BMWCCA GGCh car clinic. I am trying to lure Gary Shannon to come and help us put this. However, we will need additional volunteers. You do not need to participate in the track event to attend the car control clinic, but you may do both if you choose to do so. Will post details (re car control registration, etc.,) once this is finalized.
Finally, those who are interested in making this a 2 day track event, may want to check with the Northern California Racing Club.
www.ncracing.org. They are having their track event the following day on 9/4.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Hrant
