Three questions/concerns with my new 03

Hopefully I can get some help!

Here are my questions:

1. When I first start the car in the morning, and I wait about 1-2 minutes so it is warmed up, and I start to drive, most of the time from 1st to 2nd gear it is pretty hard and notchy shifting, sometimes it almost wants to grind! Overall the gearbox feels pretty notchy.. dont know if this is normal for an NSX. -particularly on a new 03.

2. Another problem when the car is still pretty cold.. Some part of the dash or the passenger door seems loose, so something that vibrates, is driving me insane.. I've tried readjusting the manual in the glove compartment, taking the manual out, adjusting the T-tops, taking it off,.. whatever I do, this annoying vibrating/crackling noise doesnt go away.. But when I drive a bit, it gets a bit less...

3. Maybe this is a stupid question, but on the ac/cent controls, if I JUST want to turn on the vent (ex. heater) and NOT the AC, the only way I've figured out to turn it on is to push the AC ONOFF button twice so the vents turn on and the AC off once I push it the second time. Is there any way I can turn on the vents without engaging with AC on first?

These answers will GREATLY help me..

ANY help is appreciated.

Thank you!

Here is a possible suggestion, but please note that I haven't tried it myself so I'm not sure whether it will work. I assume that you are turning the system off (using the big knob on the right) when you turn off the car. Have you tried leaving the system on when you turn off the car? Maybe it remembers its settings (with A/C off).

Otherwise, what you run into is the fact that the "power on" button for the system is the AUTO button, which doubles as the control to put the system into full automatic operation.

nsxtasy.....your right, I don't like driving with my A/C always on, I shut it off with the A/C button. After you park the car, if you just shut the NSX off while leaving the climate control on, it will remember the settings you had before. So it will continue to leave the A/C off. This is actually one of the first cars I have owned that remebers, most vehicles "reset" back to their default settings. My car is a 1998, I'm not sure if it's like that on the earlier cars.

to respond to your questions

Regarding the 1-2 shift when cold. This was my first complaint when I picked up my 02, I asked on this board as well as the NSX mechanic at the dealership. This is a very common complaint with newer (and I think older) NSX's. Until the car is completely warmed up, you will experience notchy shifts, and if you force it, you will grind the gears. Be slow, and gentle until warmed up.

I think Ken's advice to you is correct. If you leave the system on before you turn off the car, your settings will still be there when you start the car up the next time.

Also, if you watch your temperature gauge, you might be surprised as I was, it takes alot longer to warm up the NSX than anyother car I drive (or have driven). This too is normal.

Relax and enjoy the ride, when the car is fully warmed up, press your right foot to the floor on the pedal to the far right, and listen to the song that erupts behind you. It's a sweet sound, even with stock exhaust!!!!

Amen, it sounds awesome!

Thank you...

Thank you all for your suggestions..

I will try leaving the vents on with the AC off and hopefully, it will fix the problem. I will have to live with the notchy shifting.

But regarding the vibrating/creaking noise thats so annoying, I might have to take it to the local Acura dealer and see what they have to say.

The sound is VERY sweet and you are right, even with the stock exhaust and now with the cantrell concepts AIS I just installed!

Again, thank you all..

Any rattles or creaks are not normal and should be fixed by the dealer.

One thing i've found that helps with the cold notchy shifting is before you take off, shift through all the gears several times while you're sitting still.

My 1991 remembers as well. I don't think they've changed the climate control at all in the car's lifetime.
