I installed the Taitect GTLW silencers to appease my wife who said "it's to LOUD!". Now I feel like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, this ones too loud, This ones too quiet... I'm looking for this one's just right!

I would like something between wide open and the silencer version. I was wondering what it would do if I were to drill some holes in the silencer to adjust the total opening? Any thoughts.

Thought about that but it just seemed like it would create real confusion in the engine with the different levels of back pressure.

Leave her for a younger woman who understands. Two birds, one stone

oh snap its gettin personal!!!

You could try to drill holes but that might not make a difference. Just go on ebay and buy a silencer with the right outlet size that you like. If i were you I wouldnt bother and just drive like a grandma when your wifes in the car....

I would say, why not?? Just go for it.

I would just start out with one or two 1/2" holes in the silencers for starters. Maybe you could setup your car outside and record the sound it makes. Then drill the holes and repeat the above and listen to notice if there'se any difference. Just make sure you're not too close to the car because many mics are not very good at measuring peak SPL's.
The silencers are very simple constructionwise so there not really anything to harm.
I have the Taitec GTLW but did not install the silencers. Wanted too, but it seems the exhaust has quieted down a little after about 3000 miles.

If you do it, let us know the results. Pictures would be nice to of course.

Tell her you put them in, she probably won't know the difference.  Complain about it every now and then to make it believable.

I just received my GTLW yesterday and i was looking at the silencers. The exhaust is restricted by the silencer down to 1 -5/16" for the 5 -13/16" length of the tube. If the exhaust is restricted for less time then there should be a decrease in backpressure and and a increase in sound. So try to shorten the tube a little maybe 1" at a time untill you like it. If you do try it take sound clips at each reduction in length and alot of people will thank you. (including me)

Sorry, i know it is metric but it's close.

I had actually done that very suggestion because I thought a rattle was being caused by the extension touching the inside of the exhaust. (turns out the vibration was from the silencer vibrating around the edge). It may have helped the sound a bit (ie louder). I might still try the option of drilling a few holes in the silencer to free it up a bit.

How much of the tube did you remove? You could remove the tube completely and just use the end that bolts on. I am thinking i may have a pair made locally with a better design then the taitec ones. The tube end should actually taper down to the 1 -5/16" instead of just being a tube. Should be real easy to have some made and should change the sound considerably.

hahahahahahahaahahahaha

before you go drill holes in expensive exhaust how bout this... im looking for louder exhaust i have comptech its apparently the "quietest after-market" i think it sounds really good just not loud enough for my 19 Y/o taste... TRADE?

He is not going to drill the exhaust, just the bolt in silencers. He wants to do it to make it louder.

I have the same Taitec GT Lightweight exhaust on my 91 NA1, with the silencer on its quiet but I can fell the restriction, way too much on that 1" straw hole, I removed it totally, now without that silencer on the exhaust it sounds loud but kinda loose sounding , not that solid bad ass sound and I think its too loose that back pressure is non existent, we do need the right amount of back pressure to have that torque since we are normally aspirated, so here is what I did, I replaced the 1" tube on that silencer with a 2" tube, and it now sounds really bad ass, low tone aggressive not wimpy thin, and I could feel a difference in the low end torque, it has a little more punch and when your on the 6000 to 8000 rpm geez its sounds so solid and aggresive low tone loud but not ugly loud. When the car is on idle it is so quiet like stock but blimp the pedal even a bit its growls like really solid and seriously nice.

Would you care to explain how you replaced the tube with a 2" tube?

I'm still looking at the right balance between no silencers and the silencer which I feel is to restrictive.

Thanks.

Keith

Dude, I thnk the Taitec GTLW is a very quiet exhaust, and when you step on it, it sounds bad ass! Especially with a supercharger - it's kind of like an orchestra with violins and trumpets in the backround...

Nonetheless - on the silencers - is there a performance loss?
