I've decided I don't want to spend >$700 to repair my factory sound system (center speaker and CD changer both bad). I am definitely not a DIY'er with things electronic. I'm thinking of replacing the whole kit and caboodle with an aftermarket system.
Would like to stay less than $750. Any rec's? Is this possible? Want to look as close to OEM as possible (same speaker grilles, same faceplate, etc.) Thanks.

It shouldn't cost $700 to fix. The center speaker is caused by the amp for the subwoofer, which you should be able to get fixed for around $100. I don't know what's wrong with the CD player, but even a new non-Acura one shouldn't cost more than $2-300.

I would say if you want cheap fix, reparing the sub amp (which fixes the center speaker as well) the DIY is not very expensive. As for the changer Alpine makes still makes the old CH changer 6 disc, all you need is the cross over cable, or you can hack you cable and cross the wires yourself. Do a search on 'amp fix' you will find lots of dicussion on this topic.

I'm an audiophile and use to design and build systems in the past and like working on my car, so I threw out my BOSE crap and replaced everything. Depending on what you want it can be very $$$...

See my web page has some pictures there of my install in progress under "NSX info & Mods"...
