Thursday afternoon, I'm on my way home from Bean Town, MA just got off the Mass Pike, headed down 84 when a dump truck in the lane to my right throws a rock the size of my fist out it's back, my sister had just called me, I'm talking hands free and I say oh Sh-t, the rock bounces off my windshield and over the top of the car. I jot down his plate #, pull along side and get the name of the landscape company off the drivers door, he's totally oblivious to the fact that he almost killed me. I spoke with my insurance company, have to call them back tomorrow with all the info, and they expect to collect for me, no subrogation on this claim. It made a couple of the marks on the windshield, didn't even chip it, can't see it from the driver's seat as it's right behind the rear view mirror. I plan on insisting on an Acura windshield vs. aftermarket replacement even though I lease. I walked around the car a few times, when I got home washed it carefully checking for other damage, can't believe that it cleared the rest of the car, really feel lucky that I've cheated the grim reaper yet another time!!!!

That's crazy! You're lucky you weren't injurred and your car didn't suffer more. Anytime an airborn object hits your car, it should be covered by comprehensive. Your insurance may not even need info about the truck that did this.

Another near miss story -- I was at a 3-way stop on saturday with my wife and my car. I am about half-way through the intersection when the guy coming from my left blows through the stop sign and crashed into the retaining chain-link fence. I don't know if he had a heart-attack or a stroke, but there was no attempt to stop, or try to make the turn. He just plowed straight ahead. Missed us by probably 2 seconds. Scary stuff.

Glad to hear you are ok. Amazing that a rock that size didn't do anymore damage.

When I was a kid, that happened to me in my 72 BMW 2002 and the whole windshield came into the car. No injuries, but really scary! Glad to hear you are ok. That could have been nasty!

Roger,

I am really sorry to hear what happened.
I am glad to hear that you and your car are okay.

I hope that you had a wonderful time in MA.

Had I known then, what I know now...I should have shagged a ride during the instructors sessions with you :)

Perhaps not, but I'd personally be very upset with my insurance company if they didn't at least investigate the truck driver to some degree. In my opinion the CHP can't do enough to crack down on these open-cargo load trucks hauling dangerous objects on the road. At HIGH-SPEED!

Thanks Yong, sorry we didn't get together

The way my time worked out, no time for anything once I got there. It was nice, good seminars, lots of learning, and best of all (with the minor "incident") good drive in the NSX. I averaged 25 mpg, the best since I have the car. I now have over 11,000 miles on the odometer, and climbing. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

wow. i drive that route a lot. they're redoing a lot of roads and i can't stand all of the trucks and gravel flying around. stay clear of the trucks!
glad you escaped unscathed.

I don't think it applies, please be more selective of your vocabulary.

a while back i was driving down 595 here in Davie, Fl and a semi next to me had a blow out when i was RIGHT next to the tire! I had rubber chunks hit my car and fly inside, my left ear was ringing for 4 days and now im paranoid to drive beside trucks for too long! With our cars being so low, i was eye level with the tire!! scary stuff man. Fortunately, no damage to the car...a few rubber scuffs that came right off.

I need a new windshield and a big truck sent a rock at me. It missed the windshield and took a large chip out of the roof. I ask you, how does that happen?
