This is *not* a kill story!

Well, it's close.

Just had a funny experience here in Austin. Going north on Mopac, to hit the Supercuts near Fry's, a white mustang with his friend in the passenger seat pulls up beside me (I was in the right lane), stays even for a bit, then guns it and cuts me off.

We both turn right into the driveway to the parking lot, and, to show off to his friend, I suppose, he starts to gun it. There is a sharp 90 degree corner going into the lot from where we were coming, and it's a blind corner.

Well, at around 20 mph he enters the turn, realizes (I assume) that he couldn't make it, locks the brakes, and slides through the oncoming lane, over the curb, and into the scrub brush on the other side. With his right rear wheel in the air, I drive past.

It was definitely funny (raised my spirits after a long day at the office), but it's not a kill story - there was no oncoming Ford Excursion. Pity.

Yet another reason for not taking the bait to mess around with Mustangs in the street.

You just don't know when their stupidity will take over and have something like this happen. They could've very easily put someone in the oncoming lane in serious danger.

There is indeed no limit to one's stupidity!

Exactly. I had started driving slower on the highways a few weeks ago (ticket for going 10 over), and have now started consciously keeping it under the speed limit - the street is not a place to prove anything. Unless you're trying to prove whom has the higher dis-respect for other drivers and their safety.

I don't profess to know how it is in Texas , but in Michigan you ARE putting others at risk if you drive under the speed limit on the highway. Speed doesn't kill - Speed differential does!

In CA "10 over" is the generally accepted speed limit, especially on the freeways. PCH is the only highway where I actually feel intimidated to drive above the speed limit at all (it just feels dangerous there).
