NSX? As a daily driver? In your geographic area?

No.

From a mechanical point of view the NSX is fine as a daily driver. Of course you may wish to select your tires and adjust your alignment accordingly.

I think the biggest drawback to using a NSX as a daily driver is security, practicality and keeping it undamaged.

It's really tough to take a NSX to the mall, movies, parking lots etc. If you lived in the rural Southwest or central US it might be different, but here in the east it's a different world.

You also have to worry about the weather. I think most NSX owners would agree that the NSX is not the best choice for inclement weather.

So...get your NSX, but set aside a few thousand dollars for an old Accord, Prelude or Civic for those times when you want to go to Home Depot or the movies.

i trully aprreciate your insight on this topic. now this is my question in responce to your comment:" how does an NSX differ in practicality and daily driving from lets say a corveete or a porsche boxter?" aside from trunk space, al these cars are RWD relatively high HP and are all 2 seaters. if someone can drive a vette year round why cant an nsx be driven year round? obviously i understand that driving a vehicle of this caliber in the snow is out of the question - that is obvious.
another question i have is: how does an nsx handle in the rain? i test drove one, and absolutely loved it, but it was 80 degress and sunny.

TIA

As Jimbo (nice name!) said, the NSX is fine mechanically as a daily driver, as long as "daily" doesnt include snow. It is an amazingly reliable and comfortable car, sports car or not.

But take it from your nearby neighbor in Hoboken - this is a hellacious, gawdawful place to own a car like NSX, Porsche, etc, unless the car is always garaged and for getaways only. I have owned 2 Porsches here - door dings (figure 1 per trip to the mall), the standard bump-and-go method of parking, the entire NYC area is one of bumper-car mentality. Crater-sized potholes everywhere, vandals galore... it was truly saddening to watch my cars rapidly descend into beaters.

All just my personal experience, of course!

dpm,

The NSX isn't too much different than any exotic sports car, but then I wouldn't own a Corvette, Porsche, etc as a daily driver in north Jersey either.

One technical difference from a Corvette is the mid-engine placement.

Because of the centralized mass and low polar moment of inertia NSXs are very poor in slippery or wet conditions. And if unless your tires are new or almost new, driving in rain can be a frightening experience. Just do a search on this forum and see how many NSXers have lost control of their cars in wet or slippery conditions.

I drove through rain when traveling to the last NSXPO and as long as I stayed under 45 MPH it was fine. Of course my rear tires were about 2/3rds worn but they were no where near being flat or were the wear bars showing.

In any case, I would still strongly recommend having a 2nd car and I wouldn't get a NSX as an only car in your area and climate otherwise.

as a NyC NsX owner i have to tell you that this car is not so friendly when it is wet or slippery out... i was caught in a snow storm and even thou i was very careful driving it home on a turn it slid into a curb at about 10 mph and i mean it just touched ...i got out to inspect the damage and the front bumper was cracked but no damage to the fender thank god,,,,,it cost 1700 dollars total to replace it and get it painted and installed ..if it wasnt so damm cold out it might not have cracked.i live in the bronx and i keep my car garaged n blocked in by two other cars and a wrought iron fence and i only take it to areas where there are other cars which have the same price tag as mine....well usally....i got a 4 door nsx now a tl s-type which is my everyday driver .
