Think I need a new cv joint?

Getting a popping noise rear passenger side. Only at the speed of the wheel not at the rpm speed. Anyone know where to get new cv joints. Acura wants $450 each. I'm going to get the wheel off and look deeper but think this is the issue. Any thoughts?

Did you do a visual just to see if the rubber boot is ripped/leaking? Grey grease splattered around the area is a sure sign that the boot has failed.

FWIW, If it comes down to replacing the driveshaft, member UnhuZ had one here awhile back:

I took the wheels off checked the boots they are fine.... Stumped... Any ideas? I put the car in gear on the jack stands and no noise then, I'm assuming the car needs a load on it to make the noise. No other engine noises, like lifters or pistons even when reved up. Can the CV joints fail without the boots showing sins of problems?

Only think I can think of but don't know if it would make the noise was my lugs came off way to easy might not have been tighten down correctly when I had the alignment done a while back, haven't drive the car much since then.

Mine did that..........Then I pumped the CV joint full of well placed grease and it's been good for about 2-3 years now, about 20k miles.

Do the CV joints have grease zerks? or are they already packed? I don't like removing the boots but I could give that a try

No grease zerks. You can loosen up one of the metal ties, no actual removal.

I didn't do mine very meticulously because I figured if I failed, I'd have to pull it apart anyways and just bought the longest thin grease need I could find. Then from several folds away where the boot fold is cloest to the CV shaft, I just pumped it up full of grease. Cleaned it up as much as I could and sealed the tiny hole with some sort of grease resistant and flexible adhesive. I picked to inject from the folds furthest from the CV joint and inner fold close to the shaft because as the axle rotates, it'll force the grease outward and it'll naturally be forced away from the pin hole I made.

I know someone is going to say it is the wrong way and it isn't the PROPER way. But it worked for me. I don't own a show or garage nsx though. A little muck is ok with me as long as it works.

The proper way though is to pull the boot off. And I'm guessing pull the whole CV apart and regrease it all but I've never had to pull my CV apart before.

Just up to you though, because there is the potential still for a little grease slinging.

Any more details about your car? Lowered? Coilovers? Camber kit, sway bars, custom exhaust? etc etc

Could be a number of things...

I had a similar noise from the passenger side rear (sounded like putting a piece of cardboard in a bicycle wheel!), I took the wheel off and sure enough both boots on the passenger side axle were split with grease and metal filings everywhere. I replaced the axle and test drove the car....noise still there! We put the car up on the hoist and ran it, turns out the noise was coming from the drivers side rear wheel bearing. I replaced the bearing and the noise went away.
If your driveshaft boots are sound you should definitely check your wheel bearings before you spend your money!

96-T
Tein Monoflex
No camber kit, but has been aligned (best of the local shop could do, so probably not correct)
NSX-R Swaybar
ARK DTS Exhaust

I drive the car quite regularly, have been driving it 300 miles each weekend just started doing this. The car has been lowered for a while now

I did front the pass rear boot closest to the tranny looks to be leaking around the band. I've sealed the band and am planning to add some grease back to the joint like noted in previous member did.

Well talked to my Honda Tech friend I got a new cv boot band and toghtening tool, took the boot back and re-greased the joint, but no signs of wear that I can see no shaving but I think was low on grease. I put it back together and now onto repainting the calipers before putting the car back on the ground.
