Does anyone know why they don't race NSX's in gt racing series in America ??

I would imagine companies would project a more consumer-friendly image by using a more widespread vehicle, eg an Acura TSX, versus a car with limited sales, like the NSX... If they were to develop performance products for the car they could sell them to a greater audiance, and when they are trying to find sponsors for the vehicle they can suggest an appeal to a more widespread group of people, and therfore provide a better sponsorship value.

I tried to build an NSX for this years Grand Am Rolex series but was basically told by the tech guys in GA that the car would need a CF tub, sequential Hewland trans and so forth. they dont want them anymore..

would need a CF tub
,That's bullshit. I guess they are just saying that just because they don't want them to race. That too much $$$

Now that makes sense. I can understand your point scorp965.

I posted this same thread in the General Motorsports Discussion if you all want to look at other members thoughts about it.

I'm sure you've heard the old saying Race on Sunday Sell on Monday! As the technology advances the old models are no longer competitive. The manufacters want their new models on the track. The Type R integra is a good example. The Comptech/Realtime Type R and the Nsx both dominated for several years but lost the competitive edge as the newer models came out.

If and when the next NSX comes out Someone will probaly race it. We can hope. At least its still races in JGTC in Japan. Any one know if any cable chanel covers the JGTC here in the US?

He hit the nail on the head. The argument of Political favoritism aside, the race associations generally want new vehicles because they are the cars that manufacturers support with advertising and sponsor dollars. Both of those contributions indirectly benefit the race organization with exposure. It is not in their best interest to have a 15-year-old car winning races, especially when the manufacturer doesn’t care to contribute.

SS (Showroom Stock) classes are for new vehicles 2-4 years. The races you see on TV allow “concessions” for making all the cars equal… you need to be good at this game or the race organization dictates the general finishing order with how they distribute the concessions. In our American NSX race history we even had one of those unfair concessions on our side- the addition of an aftermarket supercharger in World Challenge. An aftermarket power adder has no business in WC but without it the NSX wasn’t competitive with 600 hp Audi’s. This is similar to the carbon fiber body Cadillac’s, without that aftermarket body they couldn’t be competitive let alone win. Have you ever run across one at a DE? I would take my Miata in that challenge on any day, and the NSX would destroy it. If you compare the NSX to other sport cars in OE form it rates well on the road course, but it wouldn’t be the number one pick in any class I can think of. All of the classes allow modifications and though the NSX and other cars have great racing potential, none of them are factory racecars. Because of this almost any car can be made to run faster then an OE car, and none of the rules are perfectly tailored for the NSX strengths… That is except Honda Challenge HU.
