Gents,
I have asked in the past if it was normal that my car took about 6 km of driving to have the watertemp gauge react and up to 8-10 km before the watertemp gauge was indicating normal running temp.
Many owners stated they had the same/this was normal.

IT IS NOT

As I kept feeling it took too long before running temp was reached, last week I replaced my old thermostat and the rubber ring in it was partially deformed.
Now the new thermostat is in, it takes only 1 km for the gauge to react and at about 3-4km it is indicating normal running temp!!!!!

So if your NSX also takes 8-10 km (5-6mls) of driving to reach running temp: REPLACE your thermostat!!

Thanks for letting us know. A good thing to remember when it's time to change my thermostat.

Thanks for the news.

I guess like many, I thought it normal for my NSX to take a long time to warm up. Always thought it had to do with the large amount of cooling fluid in the NSX. Hearing thath the thermostat is not that expensive, I might have it changed on the next service as well.

Wouldn't testing the thermostat first to see if its opening at the right temp be the first step? Sure it is not expensive, but the new one might function the same way too! Just asking ......

I had the same thing happen on my '96 . The rubber gasket around the part that opens came off the edge on one side, jamming the thermostat slightly open. It began taking 10 miles for mine to warm up in the winter. I replaced it with a non-Acura/Honda thermostat from NAPA auto parts, the classical design without that extra rubber gasket, and the problem went away.

I'm not sure why Honda went to all the trouble of adding that extra rubber gasket, but it seem to make the thermostat less reliable - unusual for Honda.
