It's been rumored for a while but now according to this press release, the Daily Pilot and the OC Register, it's become a reality.

The Irvine Company has decided that the weekly gathering of exotics, customs, vintage, and pre-production cars has become too much hassle for them. As such, Oct. 14th will be the final hurrah for Crystal Cove.

I don't see how they can stop groups of owners who drive their cars to the center and buy lunch at Pacific Whey but I guess they're going to try.

Edit - My work computer won't allow the pop up window that is necessary to attach the press release. So here's a link to the thread on FChat detailing this nonsense.

  - I can't believe it. Too bad. I was planning to flying out to Socal just to see it once.

I heard that they try to salvage it by changing the rules on it. I guess it was all due to filling up the parking lot and having liability there. Also, I guess they were afraid of people racing. In my eyes, I think it helped the economy of all the stores there.

O well, if people really want to do it again, Im sure they will flock to another parking lot and do the same thing again.

That seems like a good idea but the reality of the situation is that The Irvine Company owns a huge percentage of land (developed and un-developed) here in S. Orange County. As such, nearly every other large parking lot that folks have come up with so far are off limits. And moving the car show too far north or south will lose a lot of the owners who live here in S. Orange County.

Moreover, the location and incredible ocean views at Crystal Cover were large parts of the "charisma" that the get together enjoyed.

Let it go....... The guys who started it moved a few miles south due to the size / change of the gathering.
Maybe the Dana Point Harbor would give up a lot for a few hours on Sat.?
Not much going on from 7am - 9am Sat & Sun.
Crystal cove was OK, but face it, it was just a semi fancy strip mall/shopping center/ parking lot.

I say we call this an opportunity for improvement. Screw the Irvine Co. and CC parking lot. With the caliber of cars that show up, you would think we could do much better than a strip mall................

Food for thought...........

Funny thing is, we can basically do it where ever we want. There is no law stating that we cant drive our cars onto a parking lot that just so happens to be a show car and by pure luck, arrive at the same time as others too. And just by chance while the people go "purchase" coffee at the local shop, they stand next to the vehicle to enjoy their breakfast as other innocent bystanders take a glimpse or even a photo at these randomly placed vehicles.

You're correct.

But what they can do is bring out the also world famous Newport Beach police in droves. And they can legally begin ticketing people left and right for a variety of infractions including:
1) No front plates
2) tinted front windows
3) noise violations caused by loud, aftermarket exhausts
4) speeding violations for going 51 mph where PCH is 50

you get the point.

They could also begin making folks pop hoods to prove that their multi thousand dollar Tubi exhaust system is CARB legal.

At some point, you just have to realize that the fat lady has sung and it's time to move on.

Great ideas Mark.

However, please don't bring it to Dana Point. We're already too crowded on weekends with every kook and their mother coming to the harbor and a man can't get a decent bagel.

Seriously though, the main lot at the harbor is packed during the summer and only slightly less so during the winter. I doubt that would work.

What's ironic and somewhat interesting to me is the way some of the exotic owners treat the whole event. The forget that it was started by the donut derelicts and not F car or Lambo drivers.

In my experience the overwhelming majority of these high end Euro drivers are great people but there are some world class pricks too.
