To a cop, covering his ass is priority numero uno.
Recently, I was leaving a bar and had a bit too much to drink. There were five cops loitering outside the bar, so I asked one to call me a cab. He agreed. When the cab arrived, one of the other cops screamed at me to get in the cab. Actually, he said "GET IN THE CAB YOU F*GG*T".
I was taken aback. I'm a member of the US military and was discussing this with one of the other officers. To say I was surprised is a colossal understatement. I responded to the officer.
"Sir, have I done something wrong?"
"I said get in the cab, you (slur)".
"Huh? Sir, what have I done to make you so angry?"
*ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTTTT*
I've been hit with a Tazer X-26 before (in training), but never TWO simultaneously. It was unpleasant. Nor was it pleasant when, after I hit the concrete, the officers continued to "subdue" me with traditional stun guns. I was arrested, booked, and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. I was refused both breathalizer and blood alcohol tests.
The officers that actually assaulted me were not mentioned on the police report. When I inquired about their names while arrested, I was told to "shut the f*ck up".
No lawyer in a 50 mile radius would even DISCUSS my case. Nor did the FBI care when I called, because I didn't have the offending officers names. ("Um, sir, isn't that part of the investigation YOUR job?")
In summary, I will never trust a police officer again, thanks to the Clarksville Tennessee police department. If you are a law enforcement agent and have a problem with that, please direct all commentary to the Clarksville PD.
PS: I know this story doesn't involve a moving violation, but the same PD gave me a ticket for an illegal u-turn... on a deserted 4 lane road during the day. I wasn't given a rational reason for the ticket. I looked online at the TN state penal code, and found that what I had done was indeed legal. When presented this information, the city DA said "well, the CITY has a code that makes ALL u-turns illegal". I asked where this information was posted, and he told me it wasn't. You had to come to the city court to get it.
