In several years, the Spring Mountain Motor Park in Pahrump, Nevada has plans to build five separate tracks, which can be connected, making it the longest track in the world. The property plans to have over 1,000 acres. SMMP will have homes, apartments, a hotel, a gas station, a shopping area, 6 theaters, a Starbucks, a lake with jet pack air/water rides and lots of other things. The owner of SMMP, a private track club, is an avid racer.

Oh man, this never works out. Nordschilfe is in bankruptcy, Suzuka Mobilityland is losing TONS of money, and I can think of 3 others off the top of my head. Mind you these are tracks with a history that host major motor-sport calendar events. It may be one thing if this is a track attached to a new development and not a new development attached to a track. Track culture in the US is typically is some guy in a miata with a sack lunch that scraped up enough money to buy some lowering springs and a second set of wheels. I liked SM when I drove it many years ago but I couldnt tell which layout I was running on. They have, what, eight now? You just need one great one with a signature corner that people remember (corkscrew, carousel, diabolica, key hole...)

I hope its awesome but man it would be a bummer if it shut down because it grew too fast.

Where did you hear this?
The last info I saw was this article:
http://www.springmountainmotorsport...tain-motorsports-ranch-winter-2013-newsletter

Says it'll be the longest in the country and 2nd longest in the world (longest configuration at 6.1 miles)... The Nurburgring is over twice that length..

But yeah, I agree with Will. As much as I want it to work out, it'll be hard to keep that thing going here in the US.. that is unless they plan to add a NASCAR track...

SM is lots of fun... and the other facilities there are first class, but I'm thinkin' they've bitten off a bit more than they can chew. We'll see.

...that is unless they plan to add a NASCAR track...

Which very likely would not happen given the proximity to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

To augment the business model and provide some bread and butter, they could partner up with an operator that does the Exotic car / racetrack experience thing for the LV tourists trade

If it gets paved for free.......and supplemented with the oldest profession .....

I LOL'd hard at this. It probably describes about 40% of my track/autocross buddies. The rest have Corvettes, lol.

This track will not be used for big racing events. It is being paid for by club members (number one reason for the track), three racing schools, limited club racing (which may go away) and corporate support ( Road and Track, GM and others). Over a seven-month period, SM has been giving and will give a track awareness (HPDE) to ever Corvette dealer in the country. GM currently has 120 new Corvettes at SM.

The owner knows what he is doing and may just make it all happen.
