It was only a matter of time that there would be a direct competitor to gen 2 NSX.

McLaren soon to release their V6 hybrid MCLA (McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture)

The first-ever series-production high-performance hybrid (HPH) supercar from McLaren Automotive has entered the final stages of its development and test programmes, which includes running on public roads. Due to launch in the first half of 2021, the all-new supercar will open a new era of electrification for McLaren following the end of production of its Sports Series range.

The supercar will be built on a new carbon-fibre structure, called the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture, or MCLA. Designed and optimised specifically for electrified powertrains, MCLA brings our pioneering lightweight chassis technologies to new heights.

Central to this new supercar is its cutting-edge HPH powertrain, which features an all-new V6 internal combustion engine. This new powertrain will deliver astonishing levels of performance and a uniquely intense driver experience, as well as providing medium-range EV-only drive capability.

I am surprised that McLaren is coming out ahead of the R8 and Corvette. It could be that they are looking for a way to highlight their technology and bring back some focus and attention. I can see that this car will not be inexpensive, probably in the $250k range.

Here is some additional information:McLaren has a new lightweight carbon fiber tub produced at a fancy $65 million composite plant near Sheffield as efficiently as possible. Meanwhile, engine partner Ricardo cooked up a new V6 engine for Woking so that McLaren's next-generation lineup can go hybrid in a way that provides its cars with "medium-range EV-only drive capability" as well. The quite brilliant "entry-level" McLaren Sports Series debuted in 2015 with the 570S and will come to an end once the last of the limited-run, GT4-inspired 620R road cars leave the McLaren Production Centre at the end of this year. The all-new hybrid supercar will sit between the GT and the 720S in the McLaren range, meaning it will be priced more like a $259,000 600LT than the currently cheapest Sports Series cars at just under $200,000.

I suspect when they say medium range that they are talking around 10 miles or so on electric only. This would then suggest a plug in. Our NSX has a 1+ kwh battery and can go about 2 miles.
