I landed in Bangkok on the 25th at 10:00 PM. Checked into the hotel and went out to party the rest of the night at this cool club called Carribean. 3:00 in the morning, I get back to the hotel and crash. I'm staying at a real nice 4 star hotel.
Next morning, the maid rings the doorbell and I couldn't understand what she was saying. I couldn't sleep anymore and so I get on my laptop to set my out of office reminder back at work because it had been in the back of my mind. Then the room starts moving and I'm thinking I was still buzzed from all the drinking the night before. So I stand up to check myself and the curtains are making noise and I could see that the building was moving from the 28th floor. It kinda sounded and felt like the wind was blowing the building and since it was so tall, I thought maybe they had structural problems. I was getting pissed and was gonna go downstairs, complain and perhaps check out, I wasn't gonna stay in a room that moved like that.
I go out shopping the rest of the day and when I get back, I flip on the TV and find out about this huge quake in Indonesia. The epicenter is probably several hundred miles south of where I'm at but it was swaying my hotel room for a good 5 minutes. Phuket is a resort area of Thailand that I was planning on visiting and they estimate so far about 400 dead because of the waves. I didn't think the earthquakes would follow me from California.
Pretty crazy...
