The weirdest thing happened to me on Sunday; Im driving home from the mall and I see an NSX with a FOR SALE sign on it around the corner from my house. For starters, there is under 2000 people in Helmetta, NJ and the odds of seeing another NSX around is rare enough in its own right;but for sale is another tale in its own. The NSX is a 92 in Grand Prix White and its a total roach. The car is showing 58,xxx miles and is rough. It has the Wings West side skirts, lip and rear valence all in poor condition. The roof is painted white and the previous owner must have used a MAACO and they painted over all the trim items that should be black. It has NSX-R door emblems, DC sports exhaust, lowered, cross drilled rotors, and a RACTIVE intake. The motor sounds strong but the car needs a cluth/flywheel/master cylinder  and its doesnt drive right now. The owner was asking $19k and when I asked him how negotiable; he said he'd sell it for $13k-$14k  I ran the CARFAX and the title is SALVAGE and the miles are TMU but I figured I have enough same parts left over from mine but I can easily make another NSX-a TYPE-R project and own 2 NSX's

Im closing on a new house on thursday and still havent sold my current home so Im a little tapped right now. If the car is still there when my condo sells, im picking it up regardless....

So my question is; do I struggle or apply to ELOAN for this car or is it not worth the money? Im never selling my NSX; I repeat, never selling mine and had thought about buying another one sometime in the future.

What should I do?

i would pass.

if you can do the work yourself or at a discount through the dealership it might be a good purchase but the salvage title is ugly. Do you know what kind of accident?

You have over 2100 posts so you know your thing and really do not need to ask us if this is a good deal or not. Im sure you already know :D

Good luck either way.

Im looking for peer pressure  The timing is just so wrong  I wouldnt sell it so the salvage and TMU dont really bother me.

atleast you can drive an nsx thru the winter...

JUNK TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUED

Detailed Vehicle History Definitions:

First Owner
When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.

Junk Title
A Junk Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value; or a vehicle that has been declared a Total Loss by an insurer or other state or jurisdiction. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state.

Mileage Inconsistency
If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading but CARFAX is uncertain whether the discrepancy is a rollback or a clerical error, then CARFAX calls it a "Mileage Inconsistency". In this case, you should verify the mileage with your dealer or a qualified mechanic.

New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.

Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Truth-in-Mileage Act, that the odometer reading is NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE. This may occur because the disclosed odometer reading was not accurate and verifiable.

Salvage Title
A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value; or a vehicle that has been declared a Total Loss by an insurer or other state or jurisdiction. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following ten States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.

Do you think it might be possible that the 92,000 in 1994 might be in error? I mean... took delivery in 1992, thats allmost 50,000 a year? That seems like a HELL of a lot.

It was probably 9200 miles, not 92000....someone just made a mistake.
I'd be more worried about the salvage title.

There is definate paintwork all over this car but the frame seems straight

Hey Mike, I don't think Eloan or most banks will do car loans on salvaged cars. I've seen that car for sale on autotrader and ebay numerous times.

Are there any vehicles E-LOAN does not finance?
Yes, E-LOAN does not provide financing for the following vehicles: RV's, motor homes, ATV's, dirt bikes, Desertlites, commercial vehicles, vehicles for business use, boats, amphibious vehicles, taxis, limousines, camper vans, tow trucks, freight liners, tractor trailers, dump trucks, armored vehicles, conversion van's, salvaged, rebuilt or branded title vehicles, custom built motorcycles or kit cars that do not have a VIN or title issued. For boat or RV loans

So if you buy it for 14 and put 6 onto it, you've got 20k. Can't you find a clean 92 for about 25? That would be a better option. You'd have a real hard time ever selling this one in the future.

I dont sell my cars, I collect them  Wait to you see my garage pics next week

if you have no plans to sell, it'd be a nice project car, over buying a clean one for $26K and then making a project on top of that.

bring a dead one back from the dead!

Sounds like for what you want this car for it would be a great deal. It is obvious that you have great contacts on getting things fixed / painted so I don't see how you can go wrong.

You will end up with a great car for under 20K! Just do it!

Im offering $12k and ill let you know how it develops

might be worth Joe L taking a look at the body/frame, either way at 12k it would be worth it as a parts car.

Bring back the Elisha Cuthbert avatar and buy that car!

(Or send me the avatar and STILL buy the car...)

For someone with the means to make it worthwhile, especially a Prime member, and if the price is right, do it! You can keep us posted on the progress, and maybe we'll learn a thing or two.

Im thinking of calling Larry B if my offer is accepted. Id rather pay $300 or so for him to come and look then get wrapped up in a severe money pit. Im trying to get one of my NSX Techs to swing by and look at it (although their's no one like Larry B)

Offer has been made, ill keep all posted
