Today while driving to work my temp gauge was at the normal level, just below the mid point. While stopped at a red light, I noticed that the tempgauge dropped down to the first red line just above the first blue line. When I pulled into my office parking lot the temp was still low. I sat in the car at idle and the temp went back to the normal level after a few minutes. My question is, what would have caused this? the outside temp was very cold this morning, about 38-45. anyone have a clue?

Do a search herein for a post by NSXTech within the past month, where he explains what is causing this. If that is happening to you, you will kick yourself because the fix is sooooo easy.

First, if you consider a temperature of 38-45 to be very cold, then what would call temps that are below zero?

Your problem sounds like a sticky (open) thermostat. The temp goes back up when standing still because there is much less airflow over the radiator.

Thanks Andy, I found your thread and now I guess Ill be putting a new thermostat on next weekend.

MarkB- I would call temps below zero to cold to store meat!!! I was on vacation in Vail Colorado a few years ago and it was below zero on the mountain. I had to keep checking to make sure my fingers and toes didn't snap off. Thanks for the reply guys! Very helpful.
