Hey all,

I am looking for some help, advice or direction.

I took the retainers (outside targa rails) apart as the rubber seals that are in between the retainer and the actual roof are in bad condition and need to be replaced.

I bought all the seals avaiable from Acura so I'd replace eveything with new seals, only to find out the "rubber" one that I acually need can only be purchased from Acura when you buy the ENTIRE outer retainer at $285.00 each! (Ouch!)

I do not want to spend over $550 for these seals, as I would not need any of the other pieces. (Retainer, Foam seals A,B,C & D)

So, I am looking for ideas or places I can go to get rubber seal or even something close to it. Here are some options I've used;

1. Posted WTB on prime for Targa retainers (no response)
2. Looked at other seals for the NSX to see if they match or are close (nothing)
3. Looked on line for "Rubber" manufactures, no one had anything close to what I need (On Line).
4. Worked with an Acura dealer to see if they can just get the seal ... (No Go) Have to buy the complete retainer for $285.00
5. Looked at the Honda Del Sol to see if this Targa had the same seal ... has a retianer but does not show the seal. (Retainer only $66.00)
6. Searched NSX prime for "Targa" and no luck there. Only found 1 top ($800) and John@microsoft the retainers / locks, but is now using them.

I am out of ideas and am looking for your help. If anyone has a beat up Targa with the retainers seals still in tact, for a good price, I am intersted!

Any ideas of rubber seal manufactures that I can go to?

Help?

Can you buy the part from one of the dealers on here that offer a discount?

I think you will find by the time you spend the time and money to come up with an alternative that in the end the BEST result will be the OEM piece. Just my $0.02.

I agree wil you that the best result will be the OEM piece. However, I guess I am having a hard time justifying $550 + dollars for for 2 peices of rubber the are no longer then a windshield wiper.

I jjst thought someone may know of a place I can get a similar seal from that will work.

I've called several Acura parts dealers and the problem is ... the "Rubber Seal" that I am looking for is only sold with the metal retainer. They are all within $5-$10 in price.

There are two (maybe more) on this board that offer 15-20% discounts. That will add up.

can you take a picture of the rubber seal? i would assume it is very similar to rubber molding but am not sure...

if it is anything like a rubber molding or weatherstripping, you can try to look around: www.mcmaster.com and see what they have (and they have basically everything.

The price of $285 is heavely discounted and they also included freee shipping. That is the lowest possible price that I was able to get. If anyone can get a lower price, please let me know.

broinkrist ... Thanks for the website and I will check it out. Here are a couple of pictures of the rubber seal I am talking about. Not easy to take a picture that one can get a proper visual of the seal.

One side (that faces up) has a grove all the way down that presses into the metal retainer and holds the seal in place. the back side is flat and basically sits ontop of the actual targa roof.

This picture has a pen in it to help identify the actual size of the seal

You might try talking to a body shop and see what choices they have. I know the t-top seal that goes on the front of the crossbar behind the drivers head and down the B-pillars is listed around $1000. Seems par for the course.
