just got the car back yesterday and as a favor for 2slow2speed, here are a few pics of my new hood.

I will post better pics once I get my "other" goodies installed.

enjoy...

the only part that is off-aligned, is the left side near the driver's door. it is a little high.

Thanks for the pictures :)

Hi Allen,

Thanks for posting the pictures, the car looks really nice with the new hood.

I'm sure that 99% of the people won't even see the slight discrepancy on the height ;)

Are you planning on installing some kind of ducting for the hood?

The 02 Type-R has a plastic duct that directs the air from the radiator to the opening on the hood, I had asked Chris about this part. According to Chris the plastic duct is specific to RHD cars so we might be SOL on this one unless someone volunteers and produces one.

BTW: please give us some feedback once you get to take the car to the track, I am interested in finding out how much of a difference the hood actually makes.

Once again, thanks for the pictures and safe driving ;)

I was planning on finding a local plastics shop and making my own ducting to route the air out of the front, but since I still don't know my way around San Diego just quite yet, it may be a while before I can get that done.

unless of course, there is someone in so-cal that has experience with molding CF...then maybe I can make a custom one! :D

as far as for the added down force, I'm not going to be a good candidate to give you feedback...since my car has gone through MANY aerodynamic changes, not to mention suspension adjustments since I've owned it and have not had the chance to track the car "before and after". It's still an ongoing process.

Hate to be the rookie but does this hood fit with the spare in place? Where did you purchase and price?

Must be, based on comments from others, a race version from somebody as they reference additional downforce. Hence your looking for some new "plumbing" for down under. Any idea on how effective?

Personally I think it looks awesome and would be interested in doing one myself!

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

how about some wheels Allen? :P

ha ha ha

George, no worries....my wheels are at HRE getting a full paint strip and polish. I'm getting the wheels ready for the new stoptech 4 wheel big brake kit.

as far as where I purchased it: www.scienceofspeed.com

I haven't tried putting the spare under it, as the spare would inhibit air flow and will not be able to clear my big brakes once I get them installed.

as far as downforce, I drove the car to Irvine to pic up my bro's new lifted H2 and I couldn't really tell since I didn't have my regular wheels and tires on. The stock size tires flex so much that I couldn't tell if there was any additional downforce.

Allen

p.s. here is a picture of a H2 that is a "twin" of what my brother just had done.

looks nice,
however the vent looks a little wider than the original type-r one, the backyard special one looks to be a closer replica? (more tapered)
Is it the colour thats creating the illusion? This is the main reason why i was considering the backyard special version...........still perplexed!

Allen -- Looking good! You can adjust the fitment on the side by adjusting the foward rubber bump stop on the body. This will push the rear edge down. It also helps to loosen all bolts and tighten the hinges slowly on each side to prevent them from binding sideways.

The carbon fiber duct is in production for left hand drive NSX.

Correction... as noted, the BYS hood maintains the origional dimensions. The TAITEC hood duct was increased in width after a few revisions to design.

Cheers,

No update at this moment, I'm sorry. However, we're putting the final touches on both the new NSX-R hood available for pre-02 and 02+ NSXes that will have the NSX-R style duct available for all the years and similar hoods! Picts to follow as soon as we have the final piece in hand.

Cheers,
-- Chris
