I understand that Taitec headers are not CARB legal. Are they not CARB legal because they will not pass the visual inspection, or is it because they actual produce a greater amount of emissions? Thanks.
They're not CARB legal because they haven't been certified by CARB to meet or not alter the allowed level of emissions on the car. They're not SMOG legal because they will not pass the visual due to not being CARB legal. That said, you can't really see the headers from the engine bay anyway.
DC and CT are essentially the same design and are BOTH CA CARB legal.
If the CA smog joint suspects at all that you have aftermarket headers they will look for the CARB sticker. All they have to do is look under the car quickly and they will see.
CA CARB has no bearing on passing smog. A non-CARB legal header may pass smog w/ flying colors but you gotta have the sticker.

BTW I took my car to a test-only place in Santee and the guy couldn't have cared less what headers I had. He barely spoke English. (I do have DC legal headers.) It was quite an experience w/ this guy (he couldn't find my engine at first ) but if you have naughty headers you may want to go there. PM me.
