I just received my new Taitec GT Lightweight from SOS today and the thing looks great. What I wanted to know though (from anyone else that has one) is what are the two black funnel looking things that it comes with? I can probably figure it out once I tear everything apart but wanted to try and find out before I am met with unexpected issues.

thanks

I don't have any pics... but they almost look like inserts for the tips... similar to the way the stock exhaust has little narrow pipes within the larger diameter tips. If thats what they are... there is no way they are going in.

Hi Rob -- The parts are new silencers. You have e-mail.

Ahhh, I may have to rethink the whole Taitec exhaust thing. The only thing that was keeping me from one before was that it is a bit too loud for what I wanted. Any way you could post some sound clips with the new silencers installed?

The Taitec lightweight is a little loud. But I feel that it is the BEST sounding exhaust hands down. But of course it's comes down to personal preference.

I'd be very interested in purchasing some silencers to occassionally get the not-so-aggressive sound.

So Rob, if they fit, and you don't want them, I'd be interested in buying them from you.

The silencers are TAITEC's new quiet tip silencers. These silencers fit into the TAITEC GT Lightweight and JGTC Parallel exhausts. The pair is $69.45 including intl freight & customs from Japan.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
-- Chris

Great Chris!

You have 3 sizes here. Do sizes they perform differently or just different sizes for the different exhausts? I have the lightweight, so which would I need? Also, do I need to drill into the tip to install these?

The 90mm tip is for your application.

You will need to drill a small hole on the bottom of each exhaust tip to install. This can be done far enough into the tip that the hole will not be seen once drilled.

w/ these silencers in place is there any chance this will be more tame? im looking for as close to stock as possible, but want the weight savings. Most important to me is in cabin sound. quieter the better.

give us an update if you install them and notice a huge diff. in db.

thanks
Randy

Well I haven't had a chance to grab a sound clip yet but I can tell you that the GT lightweight is considerably more loud than the stock application. Nice tone, it has a bit of that ricey sound to it but not too much (fortunately). Real deep and low while at lower RPMs and it howls! as you really get on it. At WOT it is just lound but sounds nice. It actually reminds me of a bit of a F-car tone at high RPMS but sounds more like my old 911 at idle and lower rpms. I really like the sound with the windows up. From the cabin it is the perfect volume for me.

My goal was to avoid the typical rice tone and the cleaned out flowmaster tone. I wanted it louder than stock but still at a level that someone unfamiliar with the NSX might think it was stock.

I think that the Gt Lightweight got me about 90% to my goal. The construction is great, install was easy once I managed to get the old one off (took WAY longer than it should have) and the appearance is great. Love the huge slashed tips.

When I grab a sound clip I will provide a more complete review.

I may be interested in keeping the silencers but really don't like the idea of drilling holes in my new beautiful tips. Would love to see a pic with them installed if anyone has them already.

Chris I sent you an email.

.

Exactly. I know I'll be okay with the sound during the day and other local NSX gatherings, but during normal days and evenings out the silencer would probably be greatly appreciated by the neighbors:D

can anyone describe the sound difference between the Taitec GT Lightweight and the older Taitec GT Competition exhausts? I have the Competition right now. It's decently loud. I'd describe it as a more edgy course sound, but i haven't heard any other NSX exhausts to compare it to. I also have DC headers on the car so that's probaby effecting the sound. I'm looking for a deeper more bassy sound like what was described of the Lightweight.

NeSX, what do you mean by a ricey sound? The horrible "can of bumble bees" sounds that some honda exhausts make? Some i've heard actually make a really nice deep rumbling sound (some of the Apexi exhausts).

Chris,

can you provide a pic of the installed silencer to show what it looks like. This seems like the answer to alot of taitec owners. I love the loudness during spirited drives, but I can only handle driving my car at most 2 hours each time.

hey,
I'm in Boston, MA.... so it might be tough for us to meet up ;)

Do you have a sound of video file recorded already or u're not sure how to create one? Maybe you can describe it? hehe Not sure how effective that will be though.

Dawgpie..

where are you located? I have a lightweight with DC headers.. I'm not sure how to get you a sound file tho..

I am also interested in the new Taitec silencers. They would come in handy on long drives! If anyone has them installed, please let the rest of us know how they work.
