tachometer not working

Took the X out for a drive today just about home and I smell something like venting capacitor and notice my tach not working. Checked fuses etc. smell gone but no tach, have any ideas?? Everything else seems to work ok.

Bump! I just experienced this same problem. Car is FI. It works only part time and if I'm driving the car and start to pull revs it comes back on for a second then dies again. Any ideas what might be causing it?

Ryneens stopped recently as well.

So I figured it out. There ended up being a short in the factory harness where all the wiring looms come together before running down the side of the kick panel. Traced this down by moving the the gauge loom around until I achieved signal. Not sure if this will help others but it might be a good starting point.

Not sure if this helps, but I'm selling a spare tachometer if anyone needs one just in case it turns out not to be the harness.
