I am planning a coilover purchase and want to keep the cost at $2,000. I am leaning heavily toward JIC (I am open to opinions). There are 2 options on the JIC setup and I would appreciate feedback.
1) 90% weighted ratio
2) 114% weighted ratio
It has been explained to me that the higher ratio will result in more understeer feel. Stock ratio for my 2001 is 88%. Type R is 123% and Comptech Pro is 167%.
I may be thinking about this wrong, however I am confused that the more "expensive" suspensions result in more understeer. I always thought that understeer is a novice's friend and the more experienced drivers prefer oversteer. It seems counterintuitive that stock is setup for oversteer while these higher performance suspensions produce more understeer. I do realize that there are many variables that affect under/oversteer.
It is unlikely that I will be able to drive the various setup options on the track to determine my personal preference. I do 4 - 5 HPDE events per year and run in groups 3/4 (depending on the organization - I don't like bumping). I consider myself an intermediate driver. I would appreciate any guidance on a setup that I can grow into as a driver.
