Surviving numbers of NSX cars?

The production records for the NSX are easy to find, and we know total production was only around 18,000 cars which were spread worldwide. But given the usual conditions over time, we know many of those cars are gone. Does anyone know where to find the number of currently active (registered) cars in the USA, and/or other countries?

Shrinking numbers can make the survivors more valuable, especially because a clean NSX still looks brand new thanks to it's awesome and ageless design.

In the UK there is a website called howmanyleft which shows how many are registered and those on SORN (statutory off road notification)

see https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/browse/honda/honda_nsx

No-one is quite sure of the exact number sold new in the UK - it may be around the 375-425 range, plus a number have been imported from various countries over the years - mainly (but not exclusively) Japan. Additionally, a few have been exported to other countries, especially 02+ cars to Asia in the past 7 years or so, due to exchange rate fluctuations, making UK sourced cars cheaper than those in Japan for Asian residents

The latest data shows ~325-350 cars in the UK.

Head over to http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/forum.php for more info.

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure a car can be titled (which means it exists and someone owns it) without being registered for the current year...

This is a great idea, however a bit difficult to obtain Owners information on the Car and status from Acura Canada.

What is know, during the 15 years production run, 701 car were imported into Canada, with Acura Canada having sold 698, therefore there are three cars that were not sold or registered. These could be Pre Production models, Acura Sponsored race cars and or Engineering training cars. Due to privacy concerns, Acura Canada would not make public any Owners information or the VIN Numbers.

In any country, Acura would not have any information on how many cars remain, only on how many cars were originally sold. They don't keep track of when a car is junked, and they would have no way of knowing how many are still on the road. They also wouldn't know when a car is exported to or imported from another country after sale.

If you ran a Carfax of every NSX VIN, you could find out the title and registration status for every NSX in the States. That would tell you whether each car is registered, titled with a clean title, has a salvage title, was totaled, etc. I believe someone did that for all the Integra Type R models, although there are fewer of those than NSX's (around 3700 vs 9500).

The guys over at the RX-7 forum obtained a National Vehicle Population Profile (NVPP) from IHS Automotive/Polk (https://www.polk.com/company/news/p...rsion_of_its_national_vehicle_population_prof). This provides the current number of registered cars for a certain make/model in the USA. This information is commonly used by aftermarket parts suppliers who need to understand the market. Obviously this doesn't count unregistered vehicles such as race cars, long term projects, etc.

The report isn't free, but someone who works in the aftermarket automotive field might be able to look up this information if their employer already has an account.

Presumably you can buy bulk access to carfax - at $50 for five reports that sounds like a pretty expensive proposition, but I bet they do "volume sales" targeted at dealerships and the like.

Does anyone have a complete list somewhere of every last VIN sold? Or is that something Acura can provide?

there are approx 16 here in new Zealand. Not sure about Australia but based on other retail figures they usually average 10x our numbers so maybe 160 there. All theoretical and will all be jdm's

This would be interesting data for many owners, including me, but mostly to satisfy curiosity. As far as impact on value or increasing rarity goes, prices are determined as much by availability (turnover rate) as by the number of vehicles on the road. You can get a pretty good feel for that just by monitoring the prime for-sale board and ebay. And of course value has many other components and can fluctuate in either direction at any time based on the whims of the potential buyers. Again, monitoring Prime and ebay gives you a pretty good idea of the going price at any given time.
